Could our neighbour be admitted to the room please? It would be for her own safety.
She strolled up to the house this morning to return something she had borrowed in our absence. It was the first I knew of it. I'm not best pleased, but bearing in mind she helps us fulfil our insurance requirements when the house is empty for more than 31 days, I need to think about how I tackle it. I just can't have a self service arrangement with our possessions.
All-in-all, I've had an irritated few days.
Argument anyone? I'd settle for 10 minutes, if nobody can do the full half hour. <<<<< A give away to my age?
She's in
That's just not on. She could have asked. Or managed. Or got her own.
What did she borrow?

may be hers broke - she borrowed yours until she got out to buy a new one
I have a good friend who cat sits for us occasionally (see, a cat AND dog person here!).
Never a problem.
Then one day she was talking about dog sitting for someone else, and saying about how she'd had her sons round visiting one afternoon, and even had a colleague round to do some work at the weekend.
I was horrified. And blurted out 'you wouldn't do that at our house, would you?!'
She paused, said 'not without asking first' (which I know she didn't do with the dog-house), and then she looked a little guilty.
The alternative is to put the cat in a Cattery - which he finds traumatic and won't eat.
And she's doing us a huge favour.
Catch 22
Eeeeeewwwww! That means the detritus aand any other sort of mingingness from her house will be in your hoover! Gross, gross, GGGGRRRROOSSSSSS!It was a hoover, in a part of the house we don't use much, so I hadn't missed it in the 2 weeks I've been back.
She's not hard up, so it's not like she can't afford to have her own hoover. I just don't get it. It's the help yourself bit I find intolerable. I now find myself scanning around the place, which is probably really unfair.........
I will have to address it with her, or I'm giving her carte blanche in the future.
[sigh]

Put her in with the contents of the hoover!
How do you know she won't rent your house out when you are away. Cannot be trusted!
I'd be inclined to let it go. (Sheesh! This meditation marlarky is goooood ! )
Seriously, the sheer hassle of finding another house sitter may outweigh the irritation of the hoover " borrowing" .It could be , as has already been said, it was a temporary borrow whilst getting to buy a new one and she simply forgot . BUT, did she empty and clean it before returning it ?
On the other hand, I don't suppose it's possible that the short term "holiday" let that I saw on Gumtree was your place ?(Pipp put that in my mind, chasing away the images of dolphins and rainbows )
And it's obvious she has had a good prowl around...
Oh buggrit. Heave her in . And the contents of the hoover.
Signy
In that case, she is getting the contents of my hoover too. And we are very smelly!Well, she had to have a decent rummage to find it. It lives at the back of a hanging wardrobe, in a walk in cupboard. And no. I emptied it just a while ago, before putting it back.
But, enough already.
But, maybe I would be wondering why I had not missed the hoover, having been home 2 weeks.
Not at all. I think I would have done a deal with her. Something like, "please use the hoover any time you like.......... In my house only"!That's easy; there's more than one hoover, and the one she borrowed is in a part of the house not used all that much, and hardly ever when I'm on my own.
I know someone would think me a slovenly madame. Hey ho.
