What do people on this diet take to treat a hypo?

Hypo's are extremely rare for me on Basal only insulin but I do keep some Jelly babies on me just in case.

Ok so it's a case of treating it as you normally would

Absolutely, a hypo is a hypo no matter what diet you follow. Like Paul I use JB's, although Glucotabs or Lucozade/Coke are faster at treating hypo's.

But no where near as nice and ... I'd miss biting the feet off!

Ok thanks. I really just wanted to make sure there wasn't something on this diet that could replace the usual treatments. I couldn't think of anything

The Glocotabs changed a few years ago, I found them to taste chalky after that and didn't like the taste, hence why I changed to JB's.
Must admit I avoid glucose sweets. Much like what I imagine chalk must taste like

I get a lot fewer hypos and they are less severe, less rapid, hence easier to treat, using smaller amounts of carbs to treat. Which is good because it's important to treat them with the minimum amount of carbs, so as not to throw you out of ketosis.

Since coming off insulin, hypos are not much of a problem (I work hard, BG dips, body liver dumps to correct, problem solved) even on Gliclazide all I did was keep a couple of squares of "Kendal Mint Cake" in my pocket, a bar lasted me 12 months, most discarded at the end of the period!

Haribo pinballs x 3. Hard to find nowadays so I buy in copious amounts when I see them in Tesco or asda. Nobody else seems to sell them.
Wish Lidl did them as the larger supermarkets I don't use unless its to stock up supplies of my pinballs.
Can't eat jelly babies.

I am amazed. Yesterday morning for the first time I did not have to take my fast acting insulin. It was stable between 6,5 and 8,8. I took a reading at 2pm and it was still 8.8. Ubfortunately when I took another reading at 3pm it had shot up to 15,8. I immediately took my novorapid to correct this which did the trick. For the rest of the day my readings were back to normal. I had Heinz Beef Broth for my lunch. Could that have been the culprit? Had it the day before and didn't have a problem.

It could be the protein in the beef broth, though there isn't much of that in it.

When you say not taking QA, do you mean for corrections or for meals? I'm not sure any T1(?) should be aiming to completely eliminate bolus insulin. And that would probably only be possible by having basal too high, and a rigid diet, to compensate.

I didnt have to take any QA at all as my readings did not go higher than 8.8. So far today it's the same story. Reading hasnt gone higher than 7.5. If I was to take 1 unit of QA it would bring me down by 3mmols. Its not my intention to completely eliminate taking insulin. My diet has been a little on the restrictive side so far but I will slowly introduce more variety as I gain more knowledge.
Thanks for advice

Do you have a pen that does half units? With an insulin sensitivity of 3mmol/L:1u you need one.

Or possibly syringes, to do quarter-units. Or a pump, to do 0.05 - 0.10 unit boluses.
