STOPTOVER, Smoke free October.

I talk a lot about the time when I still smoked. Its part of my new identity, to be a former smoker.

And I will never help to line the pockets of the tobacco companies again.

Can someone please explain this:

Two weeks ago I couldn't imagine a glass of wine without a fag or three.
Tonight I had friends over and we had a couple of glasses of wine AND I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TOBACCO!
I find this very strange indeed.
 
It's true that you can go through the day and not think about cigarettes. I never believed this as a a smoker for over 35 years.
Now as an ex smoker for over 4 months I find I can go about my business and not even think about having a smoke.
Not smoking= extra time you've gained.
40 aday @5mins per fag= 3 hours and 20 minutes of your daily life back! 24 hours 20 minutes a week! So I no longer spend over 52 days out of every year just smoking. ..☺
 
Still on track even when having a tipple.

Must say quite pleased with myself at the moment long may it continue.

Sorry to have to report, fallen off the wagon since last Saturday, had a very big personal tragedy and took to this cigarettes last Sunday and currently still in them, have every intention of getting back to non smoking at the end of this week.

Will,keep,you,posted, how's everyone else getting on?

I'm sorry to hear your news. When a crisis hits, we reach for our usual crutch.

I hope you'll be able to rejoin the non-smokers very soon John.

I gave up 25 years ago after smoking 80 a day. First weeks are the most difficult, the golden rule is once you have stopped its forever,never take another cigarette, not at celebrations ie weddings etc. Stay strong and you will come through fag free also. I wish you all the verybest.

Pasha , if I as celebrating something wouldn't be a problem, but depression and personal loss is another thing totally.
 
Where there is a will,there is a way. For depression there are medications. For personal loss I guess that everybody must deal with this terrible issue in his own way, via support from friends , family or with professional advice and support. Somebody once said "Smoking is easy to give up, I have done it a thousand times". I tried quite a few times before I finally stopped, in fact in the end I had no choice because I was hospitalised with a heart attack . I really do hope that you will win your "one day at a time" battle to stop smoking .Dont forget that "when the going gets tough the tough get going ". Again, all the very best wishes for your efforts.
 
Ladies and Gentlemen, having already advised my abysmal failure, I will be attempting to go for it again from Monday coming, how did other people get on?
 
Good for you. I know that many people take a few attempts to get it right - and who knows how any of us recent-abstainers will react to bad news.

Sorry to hear about your loss but as an ex smoker I can tell you it feels great just the smell of it now makes me feel did i smell like that when I used to smoke.

Its hard very hard thing to give up but I am sure you will get through it.
And why monday, why give yourself anytime, if you want to stop it stop it now.
I did not decide on a day I just quit, it did not give me anything good anymore, I was not addicted to it anymore so just stopped it, if that helps then may be try a cuppa when you are desperate for a smoke but if you always used to have your cuppa with a smoke try something different, I would have suggested you juice but thats a no go for us diabetics, so may be some fizzy sugarfree drink diet coke or something just to take your mind off it.

Day 1 of 2nd attempt, using Ecig with only 50% nicotine than my normal ones, early days I know but happy and certainly no cravings. This has got to happen. Seen normal Dr this morning and have had my BP tablets reduced to one only instead of two with a view to monitoring for a few months and potentially coming off all together. Who says diagnosis with Type2 is all bad, without the wake up call would not have lost 3 stone and be getting on the road to a healthier life.

Does that mean no one made it?
