Thanks, will check them out. Could not find in local store:grumpy:

Ok had a really bad food day - it's my own fault as I was out last night and had a bit if a carb fest.... Now I am paying for it.

B - scrambled egg and mushrooms
S - 9bar
L - tomatoe salad with cheese coleslaw and bbq chicken
S - 9bar, humous and celery
D - crust less quiche, tomatoe and cumber salad with olives and sheesh coleslaw, followed by berries and cream

B: Greek yoghurt with a sprinkling of chopped fruit and nuts
L: out for lunch today, had chicken, mushrooms in mushroom sauce, rocket, all on a bed of crostini. I was a bit worried about the crostini after my episode with the M&S bun, but I've been ok. Capucchino coffee
Supper: 2 slices of ham, cheese, small portion of cheese coleslaw, three baby plum tomatoes, two radishes

I even went out and about without my glasses, it was a while before I realised I wasn't wearing them, as I could actually see properly!

I'b god a code id de head (cough) and I had the munchies something awful today ...
Breakfast: Porridge groats soaked overnight as usual with berries, seeds, nuts and yoghurt
Lunch: Bacon, 2 eggs, tomato, mushrooms fried in coconut oil & butter
Tea: Leftover cottage pie with veg & cauli & cheese topping
Supper: 2-egg cheese omelette with salad leaves, half avocado, spring onions & mayo
Snack: Livelife toast & butter & Natex
Coffee, tea & water all day
Cough.

To my surprise, I have realised that I have now done 8 weeks and 1 day of this Diabetes Miracle, Phase 1!

The rules were:
Unlimited amounts of very low carb foods, including veg
Low fat (ignored that one from the start!)
30 mins exercise most days (dog walking takes care of that)
Eat something every 5 hours
Only eat a max of 5g quick release carb foods with meals, or as a snack last thing at night
Drink 2 cups Green Tea every day (this was an unmitigated disaster. I hate it. Maybe drank my quota on 5 days in total)
For every 5 hr period you break these rules, add 3 days on to the 8 weeks

The intention of all this is:
Prevent the liver from dumping glucose (eat every 5 hrs)
Rest the pancreas from panic insulining (very low carb)
Weight loss including reducing insulin resistance
Allow both organs a chance to recover from their habit of over reacting

At the end of 8 weeks (+ extra time):
Very gently add in a few extra carbs, to bring carb intake up to about 15g carbs with every meal, and with evening snack.
Again, prevent liver dumps and insulin surges, keep the organs in their new, rested state.
Continue indefinitely while weight loss continues...

So, how have I done?

It's been bloody marvellous.
In 8 weeks, I have not eaten more than the 5g limit in any one session (unless you count 9bars, but they have negligible effect on BG, prob cos not quick release, so I consider them ok)
I have lost about 5 pounds - without hunger or cravings, and am delighted
I have not liver dumped, except for my dawn phenomenon - which I cannot control
I feel fantastic. More energy. Fewer aches. No stiffness in joints. Good sleep.
My blood glucose has not risen above 7mmol/l at any time except for 3 higher than normal dawn phenomenons, usually work stress related - awesome

However, I have broken the following rules:
Forgot the late night snack, 4 times
Didn't drink Green Vile Tea
Ate high fat (I'm guessing that I could have lost 3x the weight if I had gone low fat, but blimey, it would have been miserable!)
Failed to exercise enough in the last 3 weeks when dog got a nasty cold virus and couldn't be walked (interestingly, that was when my weight loss stalled. Would have lost more otherwise)

So I should really carry on with phase 1 for approx 2 more weeks to compensate for these crimes?

Do I have the willpower to resist a celebratory latte this morning?
:nailbiting: It has been 8 weeks since my last one!

Emotionally, I have felt that the pros outweigh the cons.
My body has felt great.
There were a few wobbly moments when my BG dropped to 5.1-5.3 consistently before meals. I've adjusted now.
BUT it has been boring. The food has become quite a grind. Same breakfast. Same lunch. Evening meat, veg, cheese and berries with cream.
I am drooling at the thought of that latte.
A slice or 2 of live life bread.
Maybe try a tablespoon of brown rice!?
2 squares of 70% choc with my berries...
It is little things like that which will turn this from 'endurable for a fixed term' to 'enjoyably sustainable'.

And overall, I am f*cking delighted with myself!
This is the first 'diet' that I have ever stuck to with such success. No cheating. That alone is AMAZING.
And it is all because of the lack of carb craving.
All previous diets have involved carb craving and have therefore been nothing more than a ticking time bomb counting down to carb crashing failure.

:D:D:D

B home made yoghurt and berries and chia seeds
Coffee NONE. Sobs
Mackeral pate on celery sticks and posh scratchings
Dinner
Oooh well I was naughty and succumbed to 1 slice of pizza with salad and buttery garlic bread
Readings were 7.2 after so I got away with it. Maybe because I lost the 2 stones and also was only a few carbs over 50g yesterday. ( I think(

But. Now I'm craving carbs again. So hard core fats today

After 8 weeks of being good you deserve an indulgence, inspiring post :-) life is for living.

Saturday night is a traditional "take away night " in our house, so I had a treat last night

Battered haddock with a very small handful of chips

X4 pieces of Aldi choceure milk chocolate, I expected a huge spike however at + 2hours my reading was 4.4 , go figure !

I won't be getting frivolous with the carbs though.

My meals yesterday
Breakfast Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon
Lunch Homemade soup with oat crackers spread with cream cheese
Tea Chicken with salad and sugar free jelly with kiwi and Greek yogurt

9.00am - 200g Farmers Union Greek Yogurt, 1 slice of toasted Burgen Soy-Lin bread with margarine and vegemite & 1 dozen almonds

12.30pm – Smoked salmon, 1 fried egg, half fried tomato, onion & asparagus followed by 7 strawberries

6.30pm – 2 glasses of red wine, 3 pieces of cheese & black olives

7.30pm – Smoked salmon, half an avocado & salad

Breakfast. Eggs n bacon and mushrooms
Lunch in a moment is a small salmon steak with hollandaise with spinach
Tonight will be roast chicken and buttered greens
No doubt a couple of glasses of wine will creep in there too

@Brunneria thank you very much for posting your success - I have really found it encouraging. I also love reading what you have for your meals you have give me some great ideas.

Well done @Brunneria! Youve done so well, and a lot of what youve said I have also experienced. I have only been doing lchf for about three weeks now, and already feel so much better than I have done for years! I have noticed this week in particular that on waking I feel well, no headaches, no 'fog', no aching joints or creaking. My sleep pattern has vastly improved and I am going to sleep at a reasonable time, and waking feeling refreshed. Ive had no food cravings and havent felt hungry. I have already lost a good bit of weight, though I havent been weighed yet, and other people have noticed. It feels like a miracle! I've not stopped going on about it at work and a few of my colleagues are thinking of doing it. I dont mind eating a lot of the same things, as I tend to do that anyway, and I love dairy so its a real treat for me to be allowed to eat full fat, as we're always told to cut this out. Im allowing myself no more than 100 carbs a day, but in fact am averaging about 50-70

Today for breakfast I've had: greek yoghurt with a sprinkle of fruit and nuts
L: probably bacon and mushrooms
D: steak and veg

Thanks everyone! :D:D:D

(Just got back from cafe bacon n eggs with half a latte ;), followed by a dog walk, er, amble.)

Definitely decided to end phase 1 (5g/meal) today, and gently transition up to 15g/meal over the next 2 weeks. So a very slow increase.

Best of both worlds.

Does anybody know what 10g of carbs in potato looks like? Because I've suddenly realised that a roast potato is back on the menu! Be still my heart!

I reread the phase 2 instructions last night, and was stunned to realise how well planned this programme is. 15 g /meal (total about 60g/day) is precisely calculated to sssllloooowwwwllllyyyy refill glycogen reserves, while preventing liver dumps, allowing the pancreas to always work within its comfort zone. And stay in ketosis.

I've spent years trying to always minimise carbs. Now I have to switch to precisely spread, regular carb doses.

It's a massive shift in head space.
But I'm up for it! :D

Look on carbs and cals app for pictures of portions
I've found I can eat potato skins rubbed with olive oil and butter. With a nice cream cheese filling with chives. Could fill them with loads of stuff I guess

I know what you mean about potatoes @Brunneria! Though I'm not craving them, they are one of my favorite foods - I must confess to ogling the baking potatoes in M&S the other day!
