BS readings

Crikey Ally that a long way off..after your last trip to hosp, did you see anybody at GP's? I'm surpised they not wanting your morning levels down a tad bit more.

Well done on the smaller portions...

Well done Kezzer, huge difference from your earlier figures, I woke up to 6.1 and I'm still 6.1 now, BUT ...felt yucky all day possibly just metformin beating me up
Thanks book mite.... I've been struggling a bit with the fasting bs which seem to affect the rest of my day... I think it's because my medicine has been reduced. So fingers crossed this will be a downward trend. :)

May I ask, how long after waking do you test and how long is it from when you wake to eating ? thats what seemed to be your spike this morning, I've heard of " liver dumps" but yours was pretty spectacular:-)

Is there a best time period from waking to eating or are we all different?

5.2 fasting, 5.9 after lunch of homemade chicken and leek soup and a ryvita and Philly, then I went to blood donors (had the ryvita mainly to make sure I was fuelled enough to donate!) Went in to town after that , had a phone call while in town for an interview tomorrow- I then had to go and find some suitable trousers for that as all my work ones are way too hanging off me! The lady advising me handed me a pair of size 20 but said I may need 18- I was sceptical, couldn't be bothered getting changed with jeans and boots on but came home to find they fit fine!! So that's 3 + sizes down !
Came home on 5.1, now 2 hrs after dinner I'm on 5.8

I tend to walk before lunch as it's easier for me - so usually I test before the walk, when I get back and eat my lunch and then 2 hrs after my lunch. I spoke with the dietician about what time to walk and she said ideally you should walk 30 mins after food... But I walk before I eat because after I've eaten I don't have the motivation for it lol

Yes the liver dumps are a pain, but some of that is my fault. I get up at 6.30 and have to leave home to go to work by 7am at the latest, so I don't actually eat breakfast until around 8.15/8.30.... If I was to eat shortly after waking I don't usually get such a high spike.... I've tried getting up earlier to do this, but I have found I really can't stomach food that early in the morning... However during my break for Christmas I plan to master the art of bullet proof coffee - as I could drink this on the way to work and that would hopefully stop the liver dump....

5.7 fasting
5.9 post breakfast ( very surprised as I'd had an emergency dash with mr e to A and E in between - he's ok but I had to pack overnight bag, get ready and eat my breakfast in five minutes ! Crossing fingers tomorrow is more peaceful and antibiotics kick in)
5.7 pre lunch
5.4 post lunch
4.6 pre dinner
5.3 1hr
5 @ 2 hrs

I so agree with that, I'm usually awake at 7 but don't eat till 9.30 -10,also I can't get my head around lunches, I stopped them years ago, but since I have been on a LCHF, I sometimes snack mid afternoon otherwise I get weak and wobbly but I'm not usually feeling hungry. I try to walk a couple of miles every day, the pooches really love me being diabetic:-)

Apologies to all for nicking the thread :-)

Yes thanks they sent him on his way this morning. He saw his GP yesterday about a painful man part and she told him to go to A and E if pain got worse which it had by morning. Think the antibiotics are kicking in now so hopefully he'll soon feel better and hospital said no torsion and no tumour so he's less worried by it all now.

So is this the best time to test
Testing on waking gives you the base for the day and if you have tested at bedtime prior to that you get a picture of what's happening, test before eating and two hours after tells you what affects you and doesn't, remember ideally no more than an increase of 2 after food

I suggest no increase at 2 hours if possible.

no larger portion sizes infact smaller
i,m not due to see the diabetic nurse again until may
That's astonishing Ally. With the struggles you've had, I'd have thought they would want to keep a close watch on you.

I'm not a fan of meds, but I was thinks nf the same ass DD; that another notch up on your dose might be helpful.

If not the nurse, are you due to see your Doctor? I just can't understand how they can leave you that long when you've had to go to hospital a few times.

Bewildered of Planet Breathe.

Well that is a better second test, 5.8 before tea, 2 hours later 6.7 :)

Now just need to repeat repeat repeat repeat ad infinnium
