Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

What about doing a few comparisons with new batch against the accucheck? At least then you'll know if they are reading high and can adjust appropriately mentally. I'm not familiar with the accuracy of the accucheck but assume you trust it more than the codefree?

I will do that. I have no idea about the accuracy of the Accu Chek, but as you don't actually handle the strips at all, and as they are contained in a sealed cassette, there is less risk of contamination. I suppose.

Bluetit802.... That is iniquitous.... how can the manufacturer not be responsible for a faulty batch of test strips? Is that normal? This is your health we're talking about, not just money... if, say, you brought home a pair of trousers from M&S and there was a hole in them they would be replaced immediately, no questions asked.... Surely, if the readings are so out of the ordinary for you - especially if you test with another meter - the company concerned would have to accept liability and reimburse you.... or am I being naive? I spend most of my time travelling in the Middle East and Cyprus, so have to buy my meters and strips...I always have two different brands so that I can test them against each other, for just that situation... If the readings were wildly different I would return the test strips and get my money back for sure... It's so frightening.... you were sensible and just checked instead of going into a flat spin...I would undoubtedly have gone into the headless chicken thingy... :)

I agree it is very unsatisfactory. It has happened to quite a few regular posters previously, but it is only some of the strips, not the whole tub, and probably still within the 15% tolerance. It's not frightening, just annoying because it messes up my graphs!

I do sometimes wonder about storage issues as theoretically they are stored on optimal conditions at suppliers but may not be once in our homes. My kitchen is very hot, my bedroom very cold and obviously when I'm out and about it varies dramatically.

Mine don't move much. They are in a normally heated room in the house, no heating overnight of course. I don't take mine out with me. Just the one time I had the tub in a pocket whilst watching TV, squashed up against my body. The tub felt very warm to the touch and I got some ridiculous readings.

I've just had another strange reading an hour after lunch, which consisted of 3g carbs from 3 cherry toms and a pickled onion (plus salmon, mayo and cheese). 7.8 and 6.3 from the Codefree. I didn't use the Accu Chek as I'm short on cassettes and want to save them for the next batch..

That's the sort of weird readings I got with that batch - I'd test, get a weird one then do three other tests which usually were much lower and clustered.

I am hardly ever in the same place for more than a week, if that... I try to keep all the equipment as healthy as I can, but some airlines keep their planes ridiculously cold - then when you're on the ground they are like ovens, particularly Emirates.... Qatar keeps theirs so cold that when it's really humid you get on the plane and you cannot see anything for the fog in there... :) I have an Accu Chek Mobile at the moment, with a One Touch for comparison, and it's the best one I've had... all the lancets are in a little drum so I don't have to worry about disposing of the sharps, which is a worry often - the test strips are all tucked away inside and are sealed until you activate them...I always carry a small tupperware tub, loads of ziplock bags and kitchen roll for the rubbish... I'm sure you all know everything about this stuff, but it's only been three months for me and I still flounder a lot... I picked up the Mobile in Bavaria, so the manual was all in German.... :) I feel like a pincushion sometimes...

I'm not testing it out now, but I don't think the discount for 10 tubs is greater (as a percentage) than that for 5, is it?

Bit late today as a busy day running errands, appointment for my daughter (still not right) and then also my own that I booked with the nurse after my appointment a few weeks back with the gp....I shall start a new topic for that. I also need to catch up on posts here with you you!!
Fasting today was 6 for me, still a little higher than average but with the lack of sleep and a late dinner with a lot of Turkey I guess ok -ish! Hope everyone is ok here....I don't like being put of the loop!

@Susikav 2nd that re the pincushion ;). But once I've tested the same meal repeatedly with similar enough results I don't test it anymore - obviously as long as its within acceptable range that is

Due to finances I haven't tested for a while but eventually managed to get some strips before Christmas. My levels are normally in the 5s, since I started retesting they have been in the 6s and I had a fasting level of 7.2 yesterday which I have never had before. Being on holiday my sleep patterns are out of routine and I haven't been sleeping well. Then I have been getting up late after waking up early. My levels 2 hours after food have always been down so the food aren't spiking me. I am hoping my levels will come down next week when all will be back to normal.

Think holidays, sniffles and other lurking malaise have knocked everyone's figures (was going to say "for 6" but that would be pretty good in most cases ;) - but you know what I mean..... Don't know what test strips you use but I buy mine on eBay - pretty obviously, in some cases leaving pharmacy labels on, they are prescription ones being sold on...but.....as a pre diabetic I've no chance of script ones myself when even type 2's struggle to get them. Anyway, just a thought. Welcome to the thread/madhouse by the way :)

I am pre diabetic too. I use the code free and tend to buy the strips from amazon as I have survey vouchers. I will have a look at eBay. My cough and cold have gone but I seem to be getting hot flushes so could be the menopause...not sure if that would affect levels or not.

It's probably your different routine having some effect. Lie-ins are never good for my levels. Not so much when I get up, but later on before lunch as there is insufficient gap between breakfast and lunch. Good to know it isn't your food.

I think I will save my strips and start again next week. Let's hope the stress of back to school doesn't put them up again!!

6.5 This morning chesty cough back and coughing up yuk feeling rough. Great looks like chest infection is back for new year, peak flow readings gone back down so will try to get hold of asthma nurse b4 weekend and start antibiotics i have at home.

Probably not. It isn't the savings with me, I buy 10 boxes so they last me longer and Mr. Blue isn't nagging about me testing too much! He doesn't know how many tubs there are in the parcel. :)

Oh no. I hope it sorts itself out quickly.

Aw Loulou sorry to hear that just as you were getting on top of it. Have I mentioned serrapeptase to you? Heard good things about it for clearing chest infections, COPD particularly.

I know CE ... believe me, I know. 5.7 is a great figure for me and the stress is almost gone entirely. NOW, i'm on a mission to get rid of aches and pains thru lack of stretching given exercise is restricted to lots of walking. Stopped taking BP meds 4 days ago (without GP advice) as I just KNOW they were not doing me any good at all. Brain fog has gone, getting more determined and want to drop cholesterol meds too as my figures are perfect.

Take Care Mike :)

Mike, I want to slap you for taking yourself of the bp meds (mind you, you might enjoy it). My brother in laws sister did just this in early December and two weeks later had a massive heart attack. She has now had to have a triple heart bypass. You need to be very careful with heart medication.
