FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Has anyone read any experiences of people placing the sensor on the upper thigh? I know I shouldn't care but I'm still a bit self-conscious of it (especially hate that some people think it's a nicotine patch! Eurgh) and going on holiday in a few weeks - when at the beach/swimming etc. it would be nice for it to be hidden by shorts.

It's funny. I found it becomes a conversation starter then I get to bore the person silly about what it is, how it works and how useful it is. Seems to be a great way to avoid further questions

Yes @pinewood I am also curious if anybody has tried the sensor on their legs? Maybe the spot where you can inject insulin could be a good spot? I never take insulin through my legs anyway since I get blue spots/bruises pretty soon there. But a sensor might work. If I try it I will let you know how it works.

To people who have tried already, your experiences are very welcome.

Well. I was curious for the same reason as warm weather is approaching i did not want any white circles on my arms especially if i get a bit of tan. So i placed new sensor yesterday on upper thigh and covered with plaster in case it catches on pants. First 12hrs readings were rubbish. Took plaster off and so far so good. Quite accurate comparing to my contour next usb and dario. So hopefully will carry on like that. I read on FB page a lot of others have been wearing it on a thigh with no issues.

So, I've just decided to put a new sensor on - it's been about two weeks since my last one and I want to see how I'm getting on - I'm really missing the overnight data! Bizarrely, I am still very nervous of the big needle that puts the sensor filament under the skin - I wish I could get over that because it makes me tense my muscle, which i'm sure makes it hurt more!

The Cavillon I used as a barrier last time helped a little, but I still got a nasty skin reaction and it seemed to affect the adhesive properties of the sensor so that it was the first one I'd had that was coming away badly after 10 days and needed opsite to keep it on. So, I've decided to give SkinTac a try this time. It claims to help with adhesion and form a barrier to help prevent skin reactions to adhesive on medical instruments and bandages. Has anyone who has skin reactions to adhesive tried SkinTac either with the Libre or another CGM? How did you get on?

If this doesn't work, I guess I'll be using the Compeed under the next one, but I'm not keen on that as I'm already a bit self-conscious of the little Libre sensor on show without adding a bloody big plaster to it! Incidentally, those who do get the skin reaction, I put a Compeed blister plaster over the wound when I removed the last sensor and when I removed the plaster, the skin reaction site had healed really well. I still have a faint mark that I'm now rubbing BioOil into, but it has healed about a month quicker than the previous one, so definitely worth doing if you get the Libre-induced skin reaction.

Can't wait until they let me buy one, pretty annoying that there is no way to tell how long that will be though.
Can't cope with my sugars at all at the moment and feel like it would really help.

Sigh.

MY First Sensor expired this morning, and im going on my honeymoon soon, not sure my third sensor will arrive on time so im waiting to put my second one on so i know ill get coverage when im away, and i already feel lost without the graph...

Does the website allow you to order an additional reader? Want to make sure I have a spare in case mine breaks/is lost. I'm on the 14-day waiting period at the moment.

It does, although you can't use a new reader with an existing sensor

Thanks @obates !
What do you mean by 'rubbish' readings the first 12 hours? My worst sensor switched from indicating 20,1 to 10,9 within 5 minutes and was giving reading errors most of the times (I took it off after 24 hours). Was it that bad, or just some mmol out?

Cheerz!

I find that too. Someone at work was poking it the other day, pretty random. Most people are impressed by it and seem quite interested. I suppose new gadgets and technology are just generally interesting regardless of what they are. To me anyway but I am a bit of a geek!

What do you all make of this? About 2hours after my tea, I felt a little low, so I scanned, tested BG on my usual Mobile and then checked on the Libre built-in meter - and then repeated - really exasperated by the results:

22:10 - Scan 2.6 with horizontal arrow, Mobile 4.5, Libre built-in 2.8

Now, I felt lower than the Mobile but not as low as the scan and Libre built-in. So I decided to check all three again:

22:13 - Scan 3.0 with horizontal arrow, Mobile 3.4, Libre built-in 3.6.

I gave up and corrected the low BG. I know meters can differ, but that's just too random for me!

Given how I felt, I suspect the mid 3s was about right.

My first sensor ran high. Usually only 2-3 mmols higher than my meters but occasionally much more, especially at higher levels.

My second sensor is also running high but is at least being consistent and is generally always only 1-2 mmols or so higher than my meters.

It seems odd that this has happened to me twice and I know that, for most people, Libre runs lower rather than higher.

Do you think this could suggest that my interstitial glucose levels are generally higher than my blood glucose levels or is that a stupid thought as they will always be the same except for the time lag?
