Banging headche, jittery, 4 hours after meds so i checked bloods and got 4.3, lowest i have ever been, is this ok ?? metformin and glicazide.

Its a low reading for sure and heading for a hypo if not corrected , drink some orange juice or Lucozade, eat something as soon as possible too . My husband had several hypo when he was taking glicazide , I used to keep jelly babies in the house , three or four of them usually had his blood sugar sorted quickly . Hope you are alright, if it goes any lower or if you cant get it higher , ring your doctor please .

Thank you, just had a lunch, thought i was going to pass out, will buy some dextrose tablets today as i am driving a long way on monday morning.

You may need to see your G.P. and have your medication reduced if you keep getting low numbers.
Your profile post states diet only?

That's a good idea , keep some in the car and some at home , best to be on the safe side :)

I have been monitoring blood glucose regularly. Recently I had a glitch with meter. So I took a second and then a third reading. They ranged from 17 to 14. For me this is extremely high. Highest ever before has been about 13 immediately after a big meal which included too many carbs! Someone has suggested to me that squeezing blood from the pricked finger can be responsible for elevated readings because of blood coming from the capillaries. Rather to shake ones hand and let blood flow out naturally. Well this tends not to be the case and I generally have to squeeze finger gently.
Does anyone have a definitive insight into whether one blood is likely to have more sugar in it than another.?

Sorry can't help ya with that one I always squeeze and I can't see if it makes any difference , hop someone will shed some light on this

Have you considered that your meter is having a nervous breakdown? I have had a reading of 10 plus, which I couldn't believe, then did another test immediately and the level had dropped by 1 - 1.5mmol. This was using a different finger and squeezing gently. I came to the conclusion that my bg level was constant no matter which finger I used, it was the meter that was playing silly bu**ers. They do have an accuracy failure of between + or - 15% to 20%.

This could either be a false hypo or the start of a hypo. Your body is warning you with those symptoms to eat something, enough to ease your blood glucose levels up. At that level, I would have a plain biscuit and a cup of black tea. To ease my levels up. Then I would have a low carb meal.
If in emergency, then and only then would I have something so high in glucose.

I believe it is the meds giving you lows, you do need to talk with your doctor about reducing them.

Thanks for this info. I imagine it could be the meter! Quite a new one but given free by the company, through our medical aid.
