Ok folks, we now have another category "Lurker". I spotted it in the "Ask a question" forum. I await your comments;)

That's kind of odd.. i would class a "lurker" as someone who reads, but never posts...? The shy type. :)

I spottted a lurker post yesterday morning and wondered if that was a guest posting - but didn't think the forum allowed it. I wouldn't, by definition, expect a lurker to post at all.

I actually find "lurker" rather offensive. I've always thought of someone who is lurking as rather devious and up to no good, but that's only my personal interpretation of the word.

"New friend" would be more appropriate...

As opposed to this you mean?

BTW, the "Lurker" has just become a "Rookie".

"Lurkers" (at least by my definition) are people (generally) too private to post until they find their feet. Seen in on so many US forums it's not funny. Not my modus operandi mind you, but it happens.

I still don't like the term Lurker, Newcomer was much better and said it all really, but hey, perhaps I'm lagging behind the times:(

BTW, I see you've lost your Legend status in all this re-shuffling.....

Well, if they are looking for information, but sense from posts that there is a hierarchy or even some hostility they would be justified in just observing, and taking information they need.

Lurker does seem to be too negative a label though.

Yep @June_C ..... just a label that I'd never apply to myself but having said that, one I'd give to others in a heartbeat. There are some REALLY brave people out there.

Mike
