Nonmetabolic Complications of Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion: A Patient Survey

Pumps are great if they work properly. Otherwise it can be a nightmare. it scares me sometimes that my life relies on a small device that can be unpredictable.
 
I have had a GP saying to me recently that they do not know of long term studies of persons with pumps and if there are problems from having a constant supply of insulin being pumped....it's only set failures that's making me quit the pump but I really cannot face changing them daily for the rest of my life. Also I won't have any sites left if I have to constantly change daily. Am looking forward now to reverting to MDI.

i'm having to change daily. i was on a pump break, put it back on this past week and have had to change set 5 times in 4 days, have just pulled one out now full of blood, bruises and sore as per usual. i've been on a pump almost 10 years and i really think i just have to go back to mdi now. it's getting too hard. i can't get the same control on mdi no matter how much i try but i don't think i have a choice.

Candi-girl have you tried Tresiba on mdi? Also how long was your break for? I have also read sports massage in the pumping areas whilst on a break helps break down scar tissue.
 
i haven't tried tresiba but would like to.
i've had pump breaks to mdi about once a month the last year! longest breaks before then was the odd 2 weeks here and there, mainly in the summer.

that's interesting about scar tissue. it seems whereever and whatever set i use it bleeds/doesn't work/is sore etc

I went back to Lantus and mdi this afternoon. I know its not going to work but after my bath this afternoon I could not face trying to put another cannula in.

Degludec not poss yet (CCG and waiting for hospital) but to be honest after feeling sets in my constantly and not knowing when they are going to fail.. Well can't honestly be worse than how I'm currently feeling.

10 days till hospital Appt so will just test, test, test and inject till then...

I have no choice...and to be honest its a relief... A total relief since 2pm.. Ok not even 4 hrs but I do feel happier sitting down for my tea.. Going to bed etc...
The relief has been quite overwhelming these last 4 hours!!

i understand completely how you feel. i feel free!
i also keep not be able to bear to put a new canula in when i know it will just fail/bleed/hurt/bruise and be uncomfortable to wear.

i know lantus can take a few days to establish itself, same for levemir in my experience but levemir is quicker. the first few days of going back to MDI can be rough, just have to stick with it. i like that in the morning i get up, test, inject, eat and that's it. no, i hope that bolus worked!!!! i know it did with a pen :)
