Sugar levels after food

Just seeing what most people's bs are 2 hours after eating, I know they say you shouldn't be more than 9, but I would usually go up to about 12 mmol

2 hours postprandial I try to be around 7mmol or below, for most meals I bolus ahead of food to reduce the spikes.

btw @Topher, did you try the Super Bolus?

I try to be below 8 but tbh I often fail with that one and end up around the 10/11 mark. Sometimes I go through good phases but it's hit and miss 2 hrs after food with me. It comes down to normal levels at about 3-4 hrs afterwards quite often. I wish I was cleverer and understood all about the different kind of foods, multiwaves, square bonuses etc. but for me I don't go down that route as very often I find that what a meal does for my BSs one night, it reacts quite differently the next night so I've decided to just do my best and not stress about it too much.

Not yet as I'm still trying to work out my exact basal rates during a the morning. I should have that squared away by the weekend, so will try the super bolus early next week, oh the joys, I'll let you know how I get on

Super bolus, square waves, extended bolus's etc is sometimes more deoendent upon the type of foods you are eating.
I never raised above 2.0 ml extra in a standard bolus for my normal meals..
My basals were perfectly even though.
I didn't do the bolus's normally though to get mine correct... They recomend the 1 to 10g or 1 to 9g etc. I didn't do that.. I would do say 1.1 to 10g or 1.2 to 10g or 1.1 to 9g etc....i played round with standard bolus's rather than others.
Mind you I don't eat a lot of carbs.

Like this article Ruth. You've got me interested in trying to control the spike a bit better so thanks.

Most definitely get the basal rates right above all else.

I'm having a bbq this weekend so I'm going to try a Square-Wave bolus for the first time and see how that goes, I think it's important to make the most of the bolus options on a pump as they can deal with most meals with a little trial & error.

Hi noble head, what is a square wave bolus, never heard of it before. I'm on the vibe, and it has combo bolus on it, so I can split bolus' over a given time etc

Well you know how you can split the dose using a Combo/Extended bolus by giving some upfront and the rest over a few hours, with a Square-Wave Bolus you don't give any upfront but deliver the whole dose over the period you intend to be eating, its said to be useful when eating at things like bbq's or when picking at a buffet where you may be eating over a couple of hours.

Not sure how effective it is but its great that we have these bolus features on a pump.
