So, I've been back to eating low-carb for just over a week, have lost 4lb, blood sugars better than usual and I'm feeling good!
But you should see the looks of horror on my work colleagues' faces when we go to the hospital canteen and I sit down with my plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and mushrooms!!
Then there's the silly questions like, "wouldn't you be better with a nice healthy bowl of bran flakes with some fresh fruit?" and "how can that be good for you when it's full of fat?" and "but you're diabetic, you shouldn't be eating like that".
And the best of it is, these are NHS professionals saying this!!
What chance have we got?

Well, I've gone down the unsaturated route, but won't be having any blood tests for a while, so I'll let you know. :)

Hi, I know I get the same from friends, but I'm 16llb lighter in 2 months so happy days!

Yep Jacqui, I can really relate to what you're saying there. Some of my friends were also quite horrified when I explained my LCHF diet to them. :)

It really highlights just how much we've all been brainwashed into thinking that only a very specific diet can be healthy. The demonization of fat is just so ingrained in "us" these days that it's very difficult for many people to get their heads around LCHF.

I know the feeling. I started very low carb high fat over a year ago, all my friends and family said the same, but their attitude has changed, they are all now very interested in my diet, especially as my cholesterol is better now than it was, with my HDL (good) higher than my LDL (bad). Indeed some of my friends and family (not diabetic) are now on lchf diets themselves. I always have a few copies of Trudi Deakins 'Eat Fat' book at home, and give a copy to anyone that shows an interest. Time to educate people.

My carb addict husband developed NCGS and is on a gluten-free diet. He now has a much better understanding of the link between diet and health. He actively limits his carbs, so although eating higher amounts than me he's probably hovering around 100g per day on most days.

He was concerned about high fat when I became interested in LCHF and urged me to do lots of research. My mother is a serial dieter and carbaholic (they bonded over bread) and she too expressed concern.
But now, they're used to it, it's pain if we attempt to eat out..a low carber, a gluten-free bod and a veggie !

I've had the same responses from friends and workmates. Although now two colleagues have adopted LCHF regimes.

When I asked a GP why I was putting on weight despite eating the so called healthy diets.
His reply was it will take time.
I replied I had been on healthy diets for over ten years.
He replied, eat less.
I couldn't possibly eat less because of the job I do. I said.
He replied, then do more exercise.
When I told him I was on my feet for near 11-12 hours a day,he looked right through me.
And told me to carry on eating good carbs and reduce my sugar.

Another locum told me to diet, when I asked about sleep disruption. He wasn't impressed with my dieting for ten years or more, eat less! Eat more complex carbs!

The only lifestyle that works is low carbing and full fat.

I asked my diabetes consultant at the hospital if he could give me some advice on losing weight as a diabetic. He told me to try harder!

Well, I can't argue, as that worked for me.
