Reactive Hypoglycaemia

Good for you Lina! Keep up the pressure, I see you hypo a lot later than I, I must make a lot of insulin very quickly but not quick enough for my digestion of carbs.

She does spike quickly and hypo faster than me as well, it's all to do with them that there pesky hormones!
None of us are alike and we spike/hypo at unique times!

We are weird!
Are we not!

Well done for today @Linagirl Its shown you a few things about how high you can spike and the speed and definitely connected with the hypo.

Thanks wendolph it's taught me a lot and I am now feeling much more secure about what is actually wrong with me :) can't wait to get back to normality albeit a low carb normality xx

Hi,
To think few years ago I drank lucazade because I thought it was good for me when was ill! Should hate to think what it did for
blood glucose. -))
No wonder I hypoed when walking and thought it was my slow heart beat when it wasn't!
cheers
Derek

Evening! Hoping you are all well. Update from me, I have my appointment with dietician tomorrow, I am intrigued to see what she says being that they all seem to tell us different things, I will let you all know ...

Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs, comes to mind!
If you can wade through the obvious, see if you can question your dietician on why if carbs spike you because they turn into glucose, why they are recommended for us RH ers to eat?
Logically, anything above around 5% is not very good in my experience.

But, she will have their script and books on low GI and complex carbs!

Heard it all before!

Just don't be persuaded,
Can't wait for the baked potato and beans!
Low fat spread
Low fat fruit yoghurt!
Bananas.
Wholemeal bread and pasta.
Basmati rice.
Diluted orange juice.

But then you may get someone who knows that RH ers, only feel good on very low carbs!

Enjoy the experience!

I drove the car for the first time
Today! Felt a bit nervous but I did it. I went to Morrisons which is fifteen mins away and by the time I got there I was exhausted - is this probably because of what my body has been through today with the Highs and lows? Just wondering if anyone else experiences this and how I can kick it into touch? I can't go back to work feeing like that x

Yes after a hypo, (a while ago!) I feel lethargic and tired.
Just take it easy, it's been a stressful day!
See what you are like tomorrow!

I'm like that most days at the minute. Even on days where my bg is pretty stable all day. Today has been awful - tired, achy and a feeling similar to being on a boat! I spoke to the Kinesiologist yesterday and made an appointment for Sat. Will let you know how it goes. We had a 10 minute discussion on the phone and I felt like I had the best advice in that 10 mins than several conversations with the NHS dietician! Not as good as the forum though of course!

Well done on the driving! I haven't braved it yet.

Has RH affected your hair or skin? My hair seems really thin these days. Even my hairdresser noticed. She said if she didn't know better she would say I'd had a baby recently as my hair always falls out afterwards! I seem to be getting lots of spots at certain times of the month too. Obviously hormonal, but wondered if anyone else experiences this?

@nosher8355. I am prepared to question re carbs etc if that is what she recommends. I am half expecting the carb talk anyway, we shall see .. I will brush up on a little knowledge this evening.

Kaz did you manage to look at tpa website even if you haven't got a problem with your thyroid (I suspect you might have) there is a range of recommended tests for adrenal
Stress thyroid hormone and sex hormones all of which you need to look at. There is a private company than can do most of these by saliva. I know it's a cost but if you are armed with information then you can start to put things right.

Thanks everyone for all the support today. Boy I also glad I found you lot xxx

Always go prepared, but it's always, when they know you know about how it affects blood glucose levels and the 'reactive' part that they might not have come across before.
For your sake, don't say something like your going into or are in ketosis.
Two or three things might happen!
1. She will try and talk you out of it!
2. She will agree with you and encourage you!
3. She will have kittens, and bring out the carb police!
"Dont you know, you have to have carbs, for your brain to function?"

How can you tell I'm in a silly mood!

I must tell you about my endocrinologist dismissing my first dietician because she knows nothing about blood disorders!!!!!
His advice was nearly as good as this site particularly one poster!

Little carbs and often!

@Smamfa @nosher8355 my dietician adviced low gi and complex carbs, i told her I'd reduced my carbs and she seemed quite happy for me to try what's best for me. She did a wonderful diagram on what foods create sugar in the blood stream and to eat a variety of them so it confuses the insulin into not taking all the sugar at once.
@Kaz261 the hair and skin sounds exactly a thyroid issue. @Linagirl im exhausted all the time and the 40 minute drive to work aches my knees and home I struggle to stay awake. I used to munch on sweets during a drive and now cannot as I realised I had incredible highs and lows during driving.

Wendolph you could do with checking out tpa as well! There is a whole
Section on 'why is my thyroid hormone not working?' They even have annual conferences and some areas have groups that meet up to chat about stuff!

I wonder if there are any other RHers round here. Imagine if we all met for lunch we cause the restaurant a nightmare!! Lol

I'm being really strict on my low carb this week. only toast or banana before work and its lasted me. No head spins at all. 4.5 coming out so banana and nuts on way home. chicken and bacon salad last night and sausage egg and mushrooms tonight. No spikes. Yesterday 4.7,4.5,4.8,4.5,4.4 today 5.2,7.8,5.5,4.4,4.7 not perfect, still a bit low but steadier. Just need my sugar levels a bit higher before eating maybe. Will have a cuppa in a minute. Feeling a bit low, not been sleeping well, just tiredness. Plus blood sugar in the 4 zone, which is when I feel spiny or tired.
Whats the best level to keep it at 5-6 im guessing?

Hi @Wendolph

This may sound strange but they are as near perfect numbers that anybody could hope to achieve. Okay, you maybe happier in the 5-6 zone at present but you might want to remember that you are on the cusp of going into ketosis. Your body , bloods, hormones are getting their act together to help you achieve this!
You may be feeling a little grotty at the moment but you should, please, be getting your energy from your body fat instead of the food soon and you will slowly feel better and have more energy, like getting a second wind when we used to do all them miles years ago.
