    Dry Cough

Try Robitussen. According to my pharmacist, this is the only one that is sugar free. Or try inhaling steam - that can be even better!

NHS going to hell in a hand basket?

Is the NHS falling apart or what? Having denied me test strips, I just found out I don't get invited for the flu jab anymore. Apparently you have to guess when your surgery has the vaccine and call them to find out. No more letters inviting you to come. Bad enough for me, but for all the...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn After a bad run earlier this year, when I was getting frequent readings over 8, I've now lost a stone in weight and cut back the carbs. This morning I got my first reading below 6 in 5 months. Weyhey!

    Viv's Modified Atkins Diet

Just noticed the discussion on Yogurt. Try 'Total 0%' yogurt. It's the only one I've found that is low fat AND low sugar (4g sugar per 100gm).

    Viv's Modified Atkins Diet

I'm 5 days into a Very Low Carb/Cal diet using Avidlite meal replacements. I've replaced breakfast with a milkshake and lunch with a soup, and eat an evening meal of meat and low carb veg. No snacks. No major hunger issues so far, although I DO miss snacks! I'm also continuing with my exercise...

Self Monitoring of Blood Glucose and Type 2s

My Doc says his hands are tied and, that only diabetics in danger of hypos can now have strips. He also stated, quite categorically, that as I CANNOT have a hypo as a T2, I cannot have any more test strips. When I queried this re NICE guidelines, he said he had a medical degree and 10 years...

My e-petition "Allow Type 2 Diabetics the means to test their own blood sugar" has now been published at: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/15374 Please sign this, and encourage everyone you know to sign too. Then, maybe, we can get this whole situation raised for further consideration...

How often do you have an HBa1C ?

Thanks vivennem - I'm planning to do exactly that. I can probably cut my carbs some more, although I only really eat bread (no pots or rice). I'm not following a specific diet, just cut back on carbs and snacks. I'm thinking of trying a few weeks on one of these liquid replacement diets...

    Test strips on repeat prescription

I'd be happy with ANY strips. Not only don't I now get any strips, I can't get an HBA1C more often than once a year either. Even though my meds have just been increased and my BG is going up.

How often do you have an HBa1C ?

I guess I'm now at the bottom of the food chain then. Finally got to see my Diabetic Doc today. DESPITE my HBa1C rising to 7.5 in 5 months, DESPITE increasing my Metformin to 850x3 a day, I cannot have test strips or an HBA1C before next Feb (2012!) i.e. once a year. Left after a heated...

The soles of my feet hurt

Could be plantar facsiitus. I've had it for over 20 years, and it can be mega painful. It's particularly common if you have high arches and walk on the outside of your foot. Best thing I found for it is a glass (old milk?) bottle that's been in the fridge or freezer, rolled under the foot. The...

    Feet Hurt

I've had plantar fasciitis on and off for over 20 years. It runs in my family :)) It can be really, really excruciating, as in mega pain killers, screaming and wheelchair painful. Funnily enough, I haven't had it since being diagnised with Diabetes. I've also broken toes (Karate) and have...

NO more test strips in Bucks!

Well I saw the doc this week and, guess what, she gave me all the blurb about NICE guidelines etc. She won't reinstate my strips unless the Diabetic doc says to do so. She DID say that she would review the surgery's position if other people complained. So if any of you live in Beaconsfield Bucks...

Poor Management Of Diabetes Is Costing The NHS Up To £20 M

Re: Poor Management Of Diabetes Is Costing The NHS Up To £20 Ah, but it was really an advert for OneTouch®Verio®Pro I think! PS. This is my local hospital, run by my local PCT. You know, the one that doesn't allow T2s to have test strips!
