    Hypo experience

I've volunteered my services to talk about hypos to a bunch of doctors in the new year (eek!). I've written a short paper about my experiences and what I think would help (adequate test strips and education). Any extra thoughts would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance

Embarrassed, but need some help please..

Mental health problems are supposed to affect 1 in 4 people and is common in people with a long term condition like diabetes. I'm diagnosed with depression and borderline personality disorder and take a combination of pills for it. The stuff I'm in isn't helping me lose weight and is known to...

    Gastric bypass patient

I had a gastric bypass in January and have lost 5 1/2 stone so far. I tried all sorts of diets before but never managed to lose that amount of weight and keep it off. I was told that it could potentially resolve my diabetes and other people that have had the op have said they've stopped their...

iBG Star blood glucose monitor-any advice pls?

I got an iBGStar last year to use with my iPhone 4 and I really love it. I thought about upgrading my phone but Sanofi Aventis who make the meter said they couldn't guarantee the meter would work with the adaptor for the iPhone 5 so it might be an ide to check with them. The meters are quit...

The latest pearl of wisdom from my GP

Great idea but this could really hit the pockets of people who have to test several times a day. I do think that if people know how to use their results, they should be allowed to test rather than there being a blanket ban on testing for certain people.

The latest pearl of wisdom from my GP

It's more than frustrating! While you can read in a book that certain foods are good for your BS levels and other foods are not good, you can only find out what works for you by testing yourself after you've eaten. Not everything works the same for everyone, for example, basmati rice is supposed...

No benefit of self-testing for type 2

I'm glad I'm testing regularly at the moment. Not only am I making better choices about what to eat, I can see that my readings have been rising quite a bit over the last couple of months. While I'm eating more of the right foods, I was recently put on a (non diabetes) medication that is well...

No benefit of self-testing for type 2

A couple of years ago, my GP started to put his foot down over test strips and told me I should only be testing myself once a week. In this time, my HbA1C has steadily risen which is not good news for him financially as (so I've been told) he gets more money if I reach certain targets. When my...

If someone else suggests it's all my fault...

ROFL I think I'll wear my "normal people scare me" t-shirt at my review this month.

If someone else suggests it's all my fault...

I'm definitely feeling much better since my GP told me to stop taking Ezetrol (ezetimibe) although I'm dreading what the consultant will say at my review at the end of September. It's often hard to know who's right about these things, my GP isn't a specialist but his decision made me feel...

    Does Metformin really help?

I have to disagree about it "NOT being good for the heart". I was told this by a very well qualified diabetes specialist and I trust what he says. He wanted a friend of mine to take it (she's a type 1 and therefore on insulin) but she really didn't want to and he accepted her reasons. If you've...
