Glucomen LX plus and GP supplies (or not)

I was given a Glucumen LX Plus for testing blood ketones before I was moved on to a pump. My chemist was unable to find any strips (blood glucose or blood ketones) for this meter and I had to get a different meter. My GP didn;t know why this was an issue (it's on his system but not the...

    Child proofing my tubing

I got my Medtronic pump a couple of weeks ago. There were two funny plastic things in the box. The nurse explained that these are clips to gather up excess tubing to stop it hanging out everywhere. Don't know which brand you are getting but there might be something similar in your box? Sent...

    Cost of stuff

Yes, that is true. However, you are required to have a "back-up" plan in case something goes wrong, e.g. pump breaks, blocked tubing, cannula won't stay in. I was told initially to carry a Novorapid pen and throw it away once it had been out of the fridge for 28 days. Obviously, this means...

    Cost of stuff

I made the same argument. Saving a couple of quid per month by moving to the pump. The cost of 10ml novorapid vials (£14 each) and a box of 10 sets (£90-ish) does work out cheaper. I volunteered to use syringes and the vial as my back-up plan, otherwise one unused pen would end up in the bin...

    More Insulin or not!!!

I remember begging the nurses to let me eat less when I was first diagnosed. After about 4 months, they agreed on a smaller dose of insulin and I was able to cut back on the carbs. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    More Insulin or not!!!

Yes, that's correct. When I was diagnosed type 1, I was told what to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner in terms of carbohydrate. It was a long time before the clinic started to talk about varying insulin according to carbs in a meal. Please be careful as you are newly diagnosed and probably not...

    Cost of stuff

Your pharmacist might be willing to share exact costs if you ask nicely. Alternatively, do you know someone who works in healthcare and has a copy of the BNF book? It has the prices alongside all the other information. I enquired about this at the end of last year to help make a case for...

    Changing sites..

Last year, the DSN made me stop using my stomach for injections and gave me 4mm needles to use on my arm. It was probably due to all the scarring around my waist, but I had much better absorption in my arms and I ended up injecting less novorapid. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Medtronic Paradigm Veo - Cannula Kinking :( Scared!

Have you spoken to a diabetes nurse about the problems you've had? It might not be your technique, it could be that you need a different style of set. There is a steel one that will not kink on you, the downside would be changing every 2 days instead of every three. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    HYPOS

Hot weather like this masks my hypo signs, so I test more often. By the time I'm aware of a hypo, I can be much lower, around 2.5. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Heat problems

I've had to reduce my Levemir by 6 units to avoid hypos since this warm spell began. The heat hasn't affected my novorapid (yet) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

How does my blood glucose jump during the night

Yes, this sounds very like my experiences of dawn phenomenon. I can be 6.0 at bedtime and 23 in the morning, even though my levemir was increased to 50 units at night. Have had a loan of a continuous sensor from the DSN, so we know it is not caused by hypos. It's difficult to address with...

Animas Vibe, Medtronic or Accuchek Combo?

Have to say I am looking forward to ditching those basal injections. There's no way to take 50 units without leaving a painful bulge. Where are you wearing the pump? On a belt or in pockets? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
