    VERY politically incorrect

I am happy to take the metformin prescribed for me as part of my own treatment plan and to supplement the beneficial effects produced by modified diet (but normal carbs) and regular exercise, effects verified by regular testing. That is what works for me. Given the potential for diabetic...

    varifocals: it's official, I'm middle-aged

That was my thought too, when I started wearing varifocals nearly three years ago (at age 50). Took to them at once, and have found Specsavers' service to be excellent.

    What lead to your diagnosis?

Re: finding out The previous thread you are thinking of was probably "What lead to your diagnosis?" in Diabetes Discussions last October.

    We ARE all different ?

We are all different, and saying so is not a cop-out, it is a fact. For some of us, making radical changes to our lifestyle by adopting a much more sensible diet, losing weight, taking daily exercise and using metformin as prescribed are sufficient to bring our diabetes under control. Regular...

    About meters

This week at my 6-month review my GP decided to add my test strips to my repeat prescription medications. I was absolutely delighted, given other people's experience recounted on this forum. I regard regular testing as an important part of my diabetes treatment. It will be interesting to see if...

    SWINE FLU THREAD

I had my swine flu jab yesterday afternoon. No problems apart from slight soreness at the injection site. I was also given my pneumococcal vaccination in the other arm, and that has caused more discomfort than the swine flu one!

    desperate to lose weight

I have lost 3 and a half stone since diagnosis (and kept it off) by cutting out booze and late-night snacking, eating smaller portions and going for a brisk 50-60 minute walk every day, in addition to cycling to work. I feel better than I have done for ages.

    What lead to your diagnosis?

Like TracyA, I was constantly tired but put it down to hard work. The main thing though was the extreme thirst. I like a drink of orange squash; at that stage I could easily get through a 1 litre bottle of concentrate in one day at the weekend. I was also extremely overweight (19 stone). I...

Diet Coke ? Not for me ,

I have a can of Diet Coke most evenings, instead of the 2 or 3 bottles of German beer (and resultant snacking!) that I used to get through before diagnosis. And no, I don't miss the booze!

    eye scan tomo?!

I had my annual retinal screening examination today. Nothing too terrible about it: the drops sting a bit when they go in, but that passes quickly. My vision was a bit blurry afterwards, and didn't feel quite right until about four hours later, but I was still able to carrying on working when I...

    Does Metformin really help?

I take 500 mg metformin 3 x a day. I eat normal carbs, and exercise every day. Since diagnosis 2 years ago I have lost three stone in weight (and kept it off!). BG is within the normal range for type 2. My most recent HbA1c was 5.9, before that 5.9 and 5.8. Metformin does the business for me! :D
