With the rise of T2 Diabetes why aren't food companies required to put the GI index on Carb rich foods like bread?

My Tee2+ meter showed that it very definitely was not OK for me to eat brown bread - I can eat small amounts of home made bread-like things made with the lowest carb ingredients I can source, but a 'normal' loaf of bread is not an option.

    Type 2 HBA[emoji637]C

Do you check your blood guclse after meals? We are often given incomplete information and the starches in our diets are labelled as 'healthy' but they all go into our bloodstream as simple sugars, so something starchy is just the same as something sweet.

    How much sugar ?

The percentage of sugar is not really all that important as it is the intake of carbohydrate that is the major influence on blood glucose levels. Keep to 10% carbohydrate content, but I do not eat many foods with a significant carb content anyway, my diet is protein and natural fats with salad...

    Atheletes Foot

Possibly - or perhaps the cold water encouraged good blood flow - whatever it was, it was a positive effect.

    Atheletes Foot

I used to own a yacht and went sailing a lot - I wore open sided shoes or sandals all year round and never got out of the habit, always got wet feet launching the dinghy. These days I wear sandals with closed toes. Although I have had some problems such as the cellulitis that seems to have left...

    I need help

I suspect that overindulgence is triggered by a lack of nutrition - sudden binges after abstinence being the response to a lack of something vital. My breakfasts of steak and mushrooms with a little onion might seem strange now that cereal is considered apt, but it would not have been the case...

    Type 2 Blood sugerlevel

I did find that eating at 12 hourly intervals kept my blood glucose levels even - these days I eat soon after I get up and then in the evening. The foods I eat are nutritious, so I don't need lunch, which gives me quite a bit more time to do things during the day. It is surprising what I...

    I need help

What is your usual diet like? I find that diet is what makes the most difference to my numbers.

Fixating on insulin is starting to annoy me!

Maybe a blank look and 'with these numbers wouldn't I go hypo if I injected?' - as you seem to have non of the symptoms of a lack of insulin, unless it is a too successful weightloss diet.

    Type 2 Blood sugerlevel

Glucose in the blood is not all from foods, our liver releases glucose, and if you are newly diagnosed you might have considerable stores of it available and the liver is happy to release as much as possible, particularly if your insulin output is reducing due to alteration in your diet - I...

    Missed Diagnosis

Hello @mark.hance and welcome to the forum. Are you concentrating on sugar, or all carbohydrates? When taking gliclazide you do ned to have some carbohydrate in your diet, but high blood glucose levels can result from starches just as much as sugars.

    Vitamin D[emoji639] + Calcium

I have a jar full of calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D tablets - I got a year's supply as I have been indoors and unwell all winter, plus not eating properly and I think it has been a good thing for me. My younger sister has far more aches and pains.

Anybody else find LC just does not work for them?

You might be making things difficult for yourself by eating high carb foods from time to time - I find that avoiding anything not on my list is the best option for keeping on track with the least effort. Loads of veges might be a problem too - I have a list of low carb options because some veges...

Anybody else find LC just does not work for them?

Your body might be undernourished on the low calorie diet - I find that when eating low carb I can keep my weight steady or drifting downwards eating more calories than when my weight was constantly inching (ouncing?) upwards. Calories can be counted as negative, it seems.

    Mediterranean diet disaster

I had the same thing for almost half a century - between leaving home and being diagnosed type 2. I told the HCPs it didn't work, but I was always told I was the one in the wrong - a couple of years after diagnosis I saw one of the older GPs and I think he'd have been happier if I'd taken up...
