    Ginkgo biloba eye safety

On a single trial I think it might very well do just that. I set my stabber to one notch lower than the usual one and the drop of blood was larger than expected.

    Salad dressings

A Bamix, a box of herbs and spices and a few old cookbooks and you can have the reputation of being a chef.

    High ldl calcium plaque artries

When I changed from 'healthy' eating to a 'fad diet' at diagnosis I went back to normal blood glucose levels, and saw a reduction in cholesterol, my blood pressure reduced a little from the top end of normal to more middling numbers - all the time since then I have been eating a very Atkins...

How long have you been diagnosed type2

I had high blood glucose flagged in a test about a decade before diagnosis, but that was dealt with by not repeating the test rather than any sort of follow up. When finally informed in 2016 I dealt with it by low carbing, and lost a lot of inches off my waist and now I'm having to prompt the...

    Dr Bernstein's Diet

I think my way of eating is more anti carb than the Bernstein diet as I avoid foods with more than 10% carb content - but I am very sensitive to carbs, particularly those considered healthy options by many. The basic principle is the same though - avoid what you can't cope with. The Atkins diet...

    Ginkgo biloba eye safety

Ginkgo Biloba, the maidenhair tree, is not recommended for women before menopause as it increases bloodflow and can result in heavy periods as the lining of the uterus becomes enlarged. In later years it is considered beneficial for assisting bloodflow to the brain, and presumably anywhere else...

    Meal Replacement.

I tried shakes and a small meal last year and found my HbA1c was higher than expected - higher than for 7 years, so I went back to plain low carbing.

    Spike after breakfast

I found that a small amount of carb at breakfast stopped my liver tossing out glucose - a single tomato with my scrambled egg and cheese, pork chop with some stirfry or steak and mushrooms with a little onion does the trick.

    Grapes

I had a couple of false hypos as I dropped my carbs from silly amounts of oh so healthy brown stuff rather rapidly. A drink of warm water and 3 grapes stopped the wobbly sensations very quickly - it was mid winter.

    Newcastle Diet question

I tried a low calorie and shake regime last year, after 8 years of almost normal results. My Hba1c and cholesterol went up - not by much, but enough to make me decide to go back to low carb.

That was 'female dog' by the way.

    HbA1c result

@peterb999 totally wrong. Tuna is absolutely fine. There is absolutely no reason from the point of view of diabetes that you should avoid any meat or fish - or eggs, cheese or other dairy if it has not had something containing carbs added to it. I had dreadful side effects from taking Metformin...

Can you just stop taking statins and metformin

I was told that as I had taken two drugs at the same time there was no way to report my reaction, as it could not be ascribed to just one - perhaps I was still just a little too trusting - it has been detrimental to my well being for half a century but hope springs eternal.

Is diet along sometimes not enough to get to normal levels ?

@fendertele I'm afraid I am not enough of a meter user to know the details - If you have some replacement batteries available you could try swapping them just to see if it makes a difference. If you can contact the maker directly you could ask about getting just the calibration strip for it - or...

    Recommendations for bread

I have made 'chaffles' - cheese waffles to use with beefburgers - not really bread but fun to make and tasty. I like to add finely chopped onion.
