You should prime the new needle with 2 units, if there is an air bubble, holding the pen upright, slight tap (flick of finger) then squirt the 2 units upwards & then hold the pen button in for 5 seconds usually releases trapped air.
You should see a small drop of insulin on the needle tip...
Januvia only gives me Hypos without any warning. I’m on Metformin & Gliclazide, I had to stop taking Januvia after 10 days as nearly ended up unconscious. I’m only 44 T2 but awaiting correct diagnosis of Lada / T1.5
Saga since July 2018 - weight has sort of stabilised at 64 - 65kg, took until 3 weeks ago for GP’s to take my symptoms seriously & make the referral.
They now begrudgingly have to give me test strips for the BG meter - glad I’ve self funded for a while as they stopped giving me any, but need...
Update.... Have my appointment to see diabetic team at hospital next week! Hope to finally find out if I’m T2 or T1.5 soon
I’m also now on Gliclazide, what an amazing drug, despite having my first hypo the other day.
The Metformin doesn’t do much but the combination is now working & I’m...
Quick update....
Had the CT chest & abdomen scan, no sign of results yet! And not heard from referral to diabetic team at hospital
Had really high BG levels last couple of weeks & it’s not diet related - felt out of my head yesterday & today, plus all the usual symptoms but though I was gonna...
Why do different meters give different readings?
The Gluco RX HCT is always lower, the SD CodeFree is higher
The photo with the 3 meters was taken over the weekend & I tested on my girlfriends meter to see which of the two was nearest
I’m self funding the CodeFree meter & strips as GP surgery...
I was given a blood test meter by my GP practice diabetic nurse to monitor blood sugars & to test 4-5 times a day, before meals & 2 hours after
I have requested test strips via GP but last blood test shows sugars are reduced & GP surgery refuse to issue more - they cost £25 for 50x strips so...

Thanks I’m aware of carbs & what they are & what food...
I saw the practice specialist diabetic GP today, he actually listened to me & has referred me to the local hospital diabetic team to carry out further tests & be monitored by them.
I also have some pains in my left side under rib cage in the area of the spleen but predominantly the pancreas, so...
Thanks everyone for commenting & the feedback, I’ve lost the weight & haven’t tried nor needed to lose any, not at 73kg now down to 65kg in a short time.
I have virtually 0 sugar intake & watch what I eat, just purchased a new tester & strips as I can’t fund the strips & tester I have by using...
Same sort of thing with me, I’ve been testing myself for only 4 months, GP told me my average blood sugars are stable & to only test 4x a week until test strips run out as not giving me more - I’ve already bought a different testing machine & strips as the current ones are too expensive to self...
