I have completed this diet over a month ago, I lost 3.5stone in weight, my blood sugar shrunk to normal, and my blood pressure is normal. The advice from NHS is to base a diet on Bread, Potato, Pasta and rice, this is total nonsence and is why obesity in this country is out of control. Prof. Rod Taylor and Dr Michael Mosely did loads of trials on this diet, I advise all type 2 diabetics to get the book and read it.

Agree 100%, they need to get up to date with the research.

Excellent results! Very well done. Have you now adopted the low carb Mediterranean style diet for maintenance as suggested by Dr Mosely or something else? What reaction did you get from your GP?

Just bought it! I'm hoping I get something out of his experience.

@ickihun Best of luck with it. It is all healthy food (as long as you keep an eye on the carbs) so has to be worth a punt before going down the surgery road (saw you mention that on another thread) x

Hi. Yes I'm sure it works well but simply reducing the carbs and increasing fats and proteins should achieve the same result.

I started adding weight. Too much protein seems my culprit.

I'm thinking of buying this via Amazon. I was doing well earlier in the year as I'd lost weight and was eating "properly". Due to a few things going on in my personal life I'm not doing so well and need to kick start myself again. Or, give myself a kick up the backside!!! ;):hilarious:

It is so easy to backslide when there are things going on in your life and you feel you have little or no control over them. I too fall off the wagon (food wise) when I am stressed and even when I don't it does affect my glucose levels; all the cortisol sends your figures up.

Hope things get sorted and you get back to better ways soon.

Just finished reading the book, found it riveting and completed reading in under 4 days, I'm pleased the book has put science to the attack plan I had already started, and so far I'm 1lb short of 5stone since the beginning of August

Grumpy bosses!
I've had the book for a while - ironically I had bought this before I was diagnosed - it makes for interesting reading.

I ahve adopted the Med style diet. I have not seen my Dr since dong the diet, however I did see the Diabetic Specialists, the dietician was totally against me going on the diet because there were low carbs. I asked if she had read Dr Moselies book. She had not, so I told her to read it then critacise it. I have got to got go back for a follow up at the end of November, I am looking forward to seeing her reaction to my results.

Jinty - The book is call the 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet.

I understand there are notes in the foreword of the book urging extreme caution for insulin dependent individuals. I can't recall if it actually states it isn't recommended; it may do.

The diet is essentially a short term, calorie and to an extent carb-restricted diet, with a view to improving blood sugar, with accompanying weight loss.

If you are interested in either, it could be worthwhile reading up on your options, provided you are feeling confident in adjusting your insulin doses as you go along. As you probably appreciate lowering carb intake can result in the individual needing less insulin, and sometimes significantly so. There are many T1s on the site who user a reduced carb diet as part of their ongoing diabetes management regime, but as someone who has never used insulin, I'm not your greatest guide in this regard.

@tim2000s , @mahola might have more insight.

Like all things Diabetes, one way of doing things doesn't suit everyone.
