Hi,

I live in North London and I asked for Libre from my local GP. I did not talk to the doctor but just wrote it on that paper form you give to receptionist with other prescriptions I need such as insulins, needles etc.
They confirmed it and gave me a prescription for 1 sensor a month.
Later, when I had an appointment with my GP and asked him about Libre he said they do not provide it under the NHS. I had appointment with doctor in the endo hospital later, and I said that I use Libre and the doctor asked me if I self fund it and I told her that I get some on prescription. She did not understand it and shook her head and told me Libre is not on NHS and said 'so you do self fund it'.
So I have no clue whats going on. Seems like these doctors are also clueless. Meanwhile I am getting 1 sensor every month from my local pharmacy.
Anyone else with a similar experience?
Should I go and ask for 2 sensors a month or should I just leave it as it is??

As I understand the London Clinical Commissioning Groups are dragging their heels about issuing guidance on this. I have heard that they want to make a collective decision to avoid a postcode lottery. The link below is current I believe:

Your consultant would be the person to ask because Libre is on the NHS if you meet the criteria which are something like: doing many tests (8+ daily), having hypos without warning that require assistance from someone else, incidents of ketoacidosis requiring admission. You may have been given a starter pack via your GP. If you can self fund in the meantime there are lots of threads on here about how to get the sensors at cost price (£35).

Thanks for a reply. What is a consultant? Is it my GP or the doctor in the hospital endo centre?
I am so confused about this. They didnt ask for any critera, just issued prescription and then said that they dont issue prescriptions..

The consultant will be the specialist doctor at the hospital clinic....

It sounds like you have been given the prescription wrongly....but by who? that's the mystery.....

until your health board sort out the issuing of them, I would stay quiet....
