"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Slightly better again today! I've decided not to repot the damson as it's already broken dormancy but I will top dress it and feed it well until after it's flowered and hopefully fruited this year. I will plant the potatoes today if all goes well, but as I need to mix up some home made compost for them that might take all day.

Porridge for breakfast, crumpets for lunch as long as I'm keeping moving, ready meal for tea (I bought a load of them in my online shop because I'm poorly and haven't felt like cooking).

The hug is for still feeling poorly but it should be a winner for the horticulture.

Breakfast: scrambled egg on a small pancake. Tea. Feeling now as though I shouldn't have eaten at all but needs must.

2nd meal will have to be the chicken and veg that I roasted on Thursday. Should have put it in the freezer but forgot everything and gave in to feeling yukky and did nothing at all yesterday. So it will have to be used even if I still don't want food.

A bit low on the fluids these last 2 or 3 days. Maybe that's the problem. Must make the effort to drink more today.

I've come in for a rest and realised I am done for the day now - I ended up taking all this time just to assemble the new wheelbarrow I bought to mix compost in. I thought it would be a 10 minute job, but these things never are!

The potatoes will be fine going in next week, because I have just noticed a job that I absolutely have to do tomorrow - I need to clear up the heaps of shame where I dumped things in the garden to deal with later, and now it's later (like, 2 years later). It's become urgent because they are in the shady corner of the garden where I couldn't really grow anything... but now the neighbour's huge leylandii that was responsible for the shade has been cut down! I'm so happy because it's made a large area usable again.

So, that's the plan for tomorrow, time for a quick shower now and then I'll have my ready meal. Not the healthiest but I still don't feel like cooking.

I started to eat the chicken and veg but I really didn't want it so it ended up in the bin. I've kind of gone off meat at the moment, so will confine myself to veg and fish for maybe a week and then see how I feel.

Breakfast was some ham (open packet so it has to be used or thrown out) with some thin pieces of pineapple which I'd bought to put on top of cupcakes. Maybe should have bought tinned pineapple - there wouldn't have been so much left over to use up. Maybe I can get Alistair to help out. I would bake something with it and give it to Al, but I'm trying not to do anything extra right now.

2nd meal will be fish fingers and salad. I only have some tinned, oily fish and some frozen smoked haddock other than that available. I want to make Cullen Skink with the haddock but will have to wait until I can get some leeks, so fish fingers it is.

I had a really good day in the garden, it was a little chilly but as I was keeping moving I was fine. The doom piles are now sorted, rubbish contained and ready to be shipped to the tip.

I think it's going to rain tomorrow so it'll be indoor jobs, some more tidying is in order!

My flu is almost gone but I still have a cough, it's a little better each day though.

I had porridge for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and a ready meal for tea. One more ready meal to use up then I will have more home cooked food.

Breakfast was zucchini bread from the freezer, still tasty with butter on.
Lunch was toast with cheese and spoon of hm Picallili. Without diabetes I’d eat it with a spoon straight from the jar.
Dinner was Hokkaido scallops, again, from the freezer, seared in butter, with a salad of the greens that survived winter, kale, mini Brussel sprouts, and purple sprouting broccoli with a nutritional yeast and garlic dressing.
A lovely day for some pruning in the garden and pickleball.

The usual porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese salad for lunch and the last of the ready meals for tea. I'm almost all better, just a little congestion on my lungs to clear up now.

It's a wild and windy night out there tonight, and tomorrow there are hail showers forecast along with the gusty winds! I didn't get much done today but there's always tomorrow! Indoor tidying on the agenda.

I'm unexpectedly on dog care duties. Our 'grand-dog' Cooper is staying over for a few days whilst youngest and his wife are in London for a few days. He was due to go to dil's parents but sons mil had a fall so a last minute change. Here he is making himself at home!

That chair has a good view of the kitchen - so he can keep an eye on the food preparations. Better than him getting under my feet though when cooking! Had plans to make hm LC pasta and bulk lasagne today but they have been put on hold until he's gone back to Wales. More walking and simpler food preparation ( gammon today?) planned instead!

Breakfast: 2nd half of the cauli cheese from yesterday. Tea.
2nd meal will be some sausages that Neil bought because they were near their use by date (he bought 2 packets - one went into the freezer but the other needs using) braised together with some cabbage. Not very fishy but needs must.
Lots of the pineapple to use up before it goes off so must put my thinking cap on.
I've realised what should have been obvious. That is that the thing that tires me most with food prep/baking is the walking backwards and forwards to cupboards/fridges plus standing at the work surface chopping and mixing. Why do I do this when there is a perfectly good table for me to sit at? It's usually piled up with things waiting to be put away but as long as I can keep it clear I should be able to change the way I work. I don't have a tidy mind though - nor does Neil.

For a moment I read that as you had plans to make LC pasta and lasagne for Cooper, reading 'hm' as 'him'. :hilarious:
I'm sure Cooper would agree with this plan too.

Yesterdays meal was an experiment based on a quick pasta dish my friend made her son the day before yesterday when we were having a phonecall. Her dish is simply spaghetti with pesto and crème fraîche. I substituted the spaghetti for onion, leek and pointed cabbage, and added Parmesan flakes. Quick, tasty, easy and pretty cheap. :)
I had it with 1/3 of a small pork tenderloin with a slice of 'katenspek' (boiled and smoked pork belly).

I'll have the same today and tomorrow, which is what happens when you cook a large pot of veggies and buy a piece of meat that's enough for three days.

Good thing I don't have to think about what to cook, busy days ahead.
Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with a neurologist because my left arm (which already had some neurological issues) has been having random bouts of pins and needles, very annoying. Then my cleaner and having to pack for the weekend. I hate packing, and even more so since diabetes and having to make sure I don't forget anything.

Looking forward to the weekend though!
our yearly family weekend starts saturday with lunch, but it's a 3 hour drive so I plan to do most of the driving on friday. I know the perfect little parking spot in a nature reserve not too far from where we're going, where I'll sleep in the car. I'll go early in hopes the roads won't be too busy, so I can enjoy myself with some sightseeing in the afternoon before making my bed.
I'll bring hard boiled eggs, nuts, olives and the likes by way of an evening meal in the car, more than enough very good (well, maybe not from a diabetes perspective, we'll see) food will be eaten during the weekend.

On sunday I'll have to drive back, monday is my first day on the bridge.

I read it as "him" as well at first. I daresay Cooper would have been happy if that had been the case.
Sounds like a joyful few days coming up Antje. Have fun.
I hope that arm doesn't give you too much trouble - it sounds as though there might be a trapped nerve in there somewhere. I get pins and needles in my hands, leading on to numbness. Quite uncomfortable but at least I know what causes it - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which is reassuring. I was offered surgery for it some years ago but refused. It won't lead to anything worse. I hope your problem can be dealt with easily.

My referral is for suspected carpal tunnel, and I hope it is, as it's relatively easily treated.
To be honest, my money is on some nerve issue in my spine but I hope I'm wrong, we'll see.

It doesn't hurt, but it's very annoying to have pins and needles running from thumb to shoulder a couple of times an hour.

Thanks!
My head is still too full of everything at once, but I'm sure I can relax once I'm on my way!

I ran some errands in the morning and did a bit of tidying in the afternoon. I hope you have a great family weekend, @Antje77!

That's a really good idea to help with energy levels - I hope it works out well!

Yep, it's the story of my life! It makes sense to make several meals' worth at once, I think - less electricity/gas, and when we're busy it's good to have something ready rather than having to cook from scratch every time.

We had some very heavy hail showers today and it's very cold.

I had the usual porridge for breakfast, cheesy beans for lunch and a plain omelette for tea.

So the same meal as yesterday indeed, and just as tasty:

And again I plated too much. A piece of meat was fed to dogs and cats to ensure everyone got something, leftover veggies were placed on the floor to share.

Apparently no one but me likes leeks. :hilarious:
The onion and cabbage has disappeared, leeks have been put neatly aside to clean the plate.

It's a beautiful day here but still cold. I'm going to do a little bit in the garden, I just feel I can't waste the sunshine!

@shelley262 I'm still playing tetris in my shed, that's another job I have on the list but more urgent is the pruning of hedges before the leaves open while I can still see if any birds have started nesting yet. The section I am doing this year should be ok because it's been regularly disturbed so far with me poking around, and I saw the blackbirds going in and out of a section on the other side of the garden.

I had porridge for breakfast and I'm just about to have a cottage cheese salad for lunch, and tea will be fish and vegetables.

Hope everyone has a great day today x

Breakfast: more of yesterday's sausage thingy. Tea.
2nd meal will be fish (sea bream) with salad. Might add a few defrosted potato wedges - they are wedges cut from very small potatoes.
It's cold here too @jpscloud - not sunny, not wet but quite windy. Spring is arriving at last with all the shrubs budding and daffodils putting on a reasonable show - ours are well behind others, even along our own road (mini micro-climate in our little hollow).

Our blackbirds are already nesting in our one hedge - so it will need to be put off until nesting season over! All my seedlings though - 10 varieties of tomatoes, cosmos, cosburg, peas and beans have all germinated in our conservatory and I must do some potting on of some of them as rapidly become spindly! Thats me busy next few days.....

10 varieties of tomatoes
I have a complicated relationship with tomatoes! I haven't yet been very successful with them, so I'm trying some in the house and some in the mini polytunnel this year, and I might try a couple of different varieties. So far I have sungold and bloody butcher (such weird names they come up with! I chose that one because it's supposed be very early fruiting and very good flavour) and I've just got brandy boy germinating. Are yours all outdoor ones?

Breakfast: lettuce wrapped around ham and cottage cheese. Tea.
2nd meal will be salmon baked in foil with some mixed veg and lemon slices.

Have to make a couple of pots of soup for the freezer: chicken and leek for one and Cullen Skink for another. They are both easy enough to make as long as I work at the table and don't try to stand up to do all the cutting. Neil managed to get me a lot of leeks yesterday, hence the soups.
