Hello everybody

I am struggling at the moment
My Diabetes Nurse has suggested the 'Pathway to Remission' scheme, but i can't do milkshakes (gag reflex).

I have cut down the chocolate/biscuits/fizzy drinks by easily over 90%

They suggested eating the wholewheat Carbs (Rice, pasta, bread) in moderation

As i mentioned, in the title, my first A1c reading was 113 in january

I was put on 1500mg/daily of Merformin SR

On 28th February, my A1c was measured during my Thyroid blood test (thats kicking off now, mild Hyperthyroidism), and that came back as A1c of 94

And 3 weeks ago, my A1c was 67

It is coming down slowly, but i am struggling with what to eat. As its getting to the point that i keep giving up, getting a takeaway, and on saturdays having 2 cakes (custard slice/strawberry tart).

I know the only time i have ever lost weight, in the last 15yrs, was 1 month on a low carb/keto diet, and i lost 5Kg in the 4 weeks, but it wasn't sustainable

So, can i ask, please?

Is a 130g/day Lower Carb diet sustainable?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Thank you

Rob

The low carb diet is easy and totally sustainable - I've followed it for years. BUT I am now taking Dapagliflozin, for which it is necessary to eat a small amount of carbs, so if you are taking other medication, check if low carb is safe.

I think that Low carbing is sustainable but I had to really ‘get into’ the mind set. I have largely eaten low carb for nine years. I found I needed to find things to have in place of the carbier things I was eating. Cauliflower rice in place of rice, low carb pasta in place of, well pasta, not brown versions which are still carb loaded but genuinely low carb versions, or sliced sautéed courgette under a bolognese is lovely. Just eating berries, no other fruits. No potatoes just more of the other veg. Then to assuage my sweet tooth, sugar free jelly, dark chocolate (start with 70% and gradually go higher %). This website has loads of low carb recipes, you don’t need to pay a subscription there is lots of info for free:

Maybe Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution might help with ideas for what to eat on a low carb diet - I find sticking to a very low level of carbs is fine - mushrooms, salads, mixed vegetables, anything under 11% carbs seems fine for me.
I do a bit of baking from time to time, concoct desserts, avoid grain completely, but I eat any meat or fish, cheese, eggs, full fat dairy and feel fit as a flea.
