What T2D meds are you on?

I was diagnosed with T2D a few years ago but since then I'd been trying to conceive then pregnant then breastfeeding (and then all again) so I was only allowed Metformin and insulin.

Now I'm going to stop breastfeeding, I'm going to go to my GP to discuss alternatives. I do need to lose weight but am scared of all of the side effects from GLP1s. I also really feel like I need an energy boost.

What are you taking that's working for you?

I cannot compare to your situation but I begged to come off metformin 9seriously bad side effects and it did little else for me) Asked to go on insulin and fantastic results after time
I am not telling you to go on insulin just saying

From diagnosis in 2017, I was on Metformin for several years but then got unacceptable gastro side effects. I had some weight to get rid of having lost a shed load on diagnosis, but then after having had a few years of emotional turmoil I had put some of it back on. So in 2023 I started taking GLP1s, most recently Mounjaro. My HbA1c stays non diabetic with the injections and a low carb diet and I am gradually losing weight. I have had no side effects from Mounjaro. I’m not saying you wouldn’t get side effects but it’s not a given you will. You won’t find out if you don’t try. I hope your discussion with your GP goes well.

Edited to add that I'm another not taking any medication and trying to control it through diet alone.
Many of us find that a low carb way of eating helps reduce both weight and hba1c.
Have you thought about trying that? Loads of support and tips on here
if you do

I'm another diet controlled T2d . In remission for over 6yrs.
Unlike most I had always ben slim and even prediabetes only caused me to gain 23lbs. However all of that plus an extra lbs came off on a serious low carb way of eating, which I then relaxed a little in order to get my weight where I wanted it.

I know some people who are unable to eat low enough carbs and others who are able and lose weight and blood glucose just like I did at around 1lb to 1 1/2 lbs per week (on average). If you have quite a lot of weight to lose, then slowly is probably best to avoid loose skin.
Good luck!

I'm on both Metformin and insulin now but looking to come off insulin if possible. But my diet is not well maintained especially the last few months. When I was pregnant I was super careful so I think after that, I kind of lost control and I know I need to get it back.

Thanks. Do you think you ever be able to come off the injections?

Honestly I'm finding it very difficult to control my diet right now. With two young kids, we're always on the run, finding the time to think about myself or what I can make for myself is a luxury.
I'm also quite a fussy eater ‍♀️♀️

Hi. I was diagnosed 4 months ago.
I'm on 16 units of insulin at night
2 meltormin a day. One duloxetine a day and one Empagliflozin a day.
I asked if insulin was for life and doctor said yes. I'm type 2.
It's a lot.

Diet control only. Easy and effective. But you need to be able to test your bloods, to see how various foods affect your glucose.

Unfortunately not effective for everyone, but if it works it is great. For me despite being on 20 grams of carbs a day my blood sugar continued to climb. Insulin is the only thing that works for me.

Many people do find they do well on either diet only or a variety of other drugs though as can be seen from the variety of responses to this post.

I’m only on a tiny dose and have been told I can stay on it forever if I want. I think I most probably will as it helps control my appetite, stops comfort eating and helps keep my blood sugar levels low.

I take trajenta. I have kidney failure and apparently its the only one licensed for diabetics with kidney conditions. Im not overweight enough for ozempic etc
