McMoggy, 50, genetic type 2, diagnosed 15 years. Metformin 1000mg & Gliclizide 80mg twice daily. Severe neuropathy affecting feet, legs, abdomin, digestive tract, hands, arms, head & face. full doses Gabapentin & Tramodol required. Use wheel chair & sticks. Retinopathy and maculopathy in both eyes, unsuccesful laser treatment in left, have now lost sight. Right eye being closely monitored, have very good sight in that eye but macular oedema is present and too close to centre for treatment. Had complete mental collapse 10 years ago and little or no control with alcoholism for 5 years, hence all the complications now. Tea total for past 5 years but still have depression and anxiety. Waiting for god.

Hello all. I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 39 years diagnosed on my 21st birthday 1974. That means that I will be 60 next May. 3 years ago my husband and I moved to France to live in a small chateau in a beautiful remote place. We make our living by running 2 holiday lets which are part of our chateau. We have made a success of it. But, and there is a big BUT, often I am very unhappy. I suffer from depression and have been on Paroxeteine for a long time, having been on various different depression medications before that. I have also had various types of psychological counseling etc. The thing about depression is that when I am in a bad state, it feels like I have always been there! This is actually untrue, but right now I am feeling pretty low. I have a Diabetic consultant, a GP and even have had a counsellor made available to me here in France, but I have let things slide during the past year and have not bothered renewing appointments.
Anyway, I found this forum and have spent the last few days dipping into it. Thankyou so much for all the good information especially on the Low Carb diet. I have already started to try out the ideas and since then I have been feeling very much better.
When I started writing this post I was really in the doldrums but now I am more like my good natured self.
I will be back!
