Putting pump on home insurance

Pump
Oh my goodness, I really hope I never have to claim for my pump on my household insurance. I'm sure it would completely baffle the insurers.

For the last few years since being told to insure it by my clinic, my pump has been an itemised extra on my household insurance with a premium added. I have just renewed my policy and was asked "Can you confirm you keep your pump in a safe"? , I felt like saying "not so often, only if I fancy DKA and a stay in hospital". Slightly alarming that they are offering insurance and premiums for items they seem to know nothing about.

Are insurers specifically for medical equipment any more informed? I think it might be time to search elsewhere.

Thanks for that, it sounds like swings and roundabouts who you get insurance with. I'll leave it as it is -though definitely not in a safe.

Having read the small print on one specialist pump insurance (see the thread link above), I'd be wary of even those. Insurance didn't cover the pump if you were in a car at certain times over night or if window/door was unlocked in car. It's all very easy for the person selling it to you to say, don't mind that bit; but if you sign and agree to those terms and something happens your pump, yer ********.

So while they appear to be specialist in pumps and what their use entails, the reality is they seem to know as much as the rest of the insurance companies (who they are underwritten by).

All the exclusions cover when you take your pump off your body and place it in or on your vehicle. Its pretty clear its about theft, if your wearing your pump and its stolen off you then its covered. If you take it off then you need to store it securely not leave it around for someone to just pick it up.

I still haven't sorted my insurance yet! The house insurance were charging an extra £60+ and were very clueless on the phone too so I said leave it and were going to go with specialist insurance. Really not sure what to do for the best now!!
