sprouts!
I was diagnosed as type 2 last September (with extremely high blood sugar levels - 32bg at the time) - I was prescribed metformin and gliclazide at the time (the glic has been modified since) - I managed to get my sugars down within the first 5 weeks and have managed to keep my sugars below 8 and within the acceptable ranges since (do have the odd spike though). I have recently been experiencing more frequent hypos and more embarrassingly am also suffering sexually (can no longer obtain an erection) - does anyone know if the medication is the cause of this? Any help/ guidance / advice would be very much appreciated

I do not have diabetes
It probably is the glicizide that is giving you the hypos.
Have a word with your GP.

As for the other, maybe someone who has experienced this problem can answer you!

Hi. Yes, it will be the Gliclazide so it may need to be reduced a bit. Glic & Met wouldn't normally cause ED. Unmanaged blood sugar can but yours is under good control so sorry can't help.

Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There some info about ED here:
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-erectile-dysfunction.html

I know it's embarrassing, but if you discuss the issue with your GP, they can probably help... for example they can prescribe medications for it, or maybe discover an underlying cause that can be altered in some way. GPs see a lot of men with this issue as it's very common.

My ex partner had ED caused by antidepressants, and he used Cialis ED meds and found the results positive.

being disabled and being ill, I hate it
I'm a spinal cord injured lad with Diabetes, when I was injured in an accident they actually gave me metformin to help me with erectile dysfunction , they have moved on since that, I now take it from my diabetes.

But diabetes it's self can cause issues with sexual ability it can cause issues , and really you do need to speak to your GP if your male or female , they can have other ways of getting an erection which are simple to use to the more complicated which I must use now. I need to take injections into the penis to get an erection due to the spinal cord lesion.

But you can put up in your browser Metformin and you will see most of the side effects which are listed and dysfunction does not come up. .
