Must lower carb diets be calorie counted too?

Only if any weight loss you are aiming for has stalled, or if you find you are gaining weight.

    Covid 19, T2 and petrified!!

When I was in hospital about 8 years or more ago I was wearing black nail varnish. I was told to remove it off one finger so the oxymeter would work properly. The nurse explained it was because it was black.

How do I remember to take my metformin?

Does it need a full meal? Would a small nibble do the trick?

    Help needed with diagnosis (RH.)

I am afraid I do not understand this. Glucose, sucrose, fructose, dextrose and anything else ending in "ose" is sugar. If your blood glucose drops too low, then yes, have some "ose", but not otherwise. Maybe the doctor is telling you what to do if you go too low - avoid normal sugar because it...

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

Thank goodness I have an enlightened GP practice.

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

All GP's can do is suggest or recommend. They cannot insist or force. You are allowed to say no thankyou.

    Disappointed at hba1c

To be absolutely honest, there is very little difference between and HbA1c of 36 and one of 39. They are always rounded to the nearest full number, and there is an error range in them. I would simply advise you to keep the carbs down. This could also help with your heart issues. There is no harm...

    Sudden change

I agree. When I had a problem about 3 years ago (nothing to do with diabetes) I went to the GP and he said I needed tests that would be done in A&E, but rather than send me there myself he ordered an ambulance for me on the grounds that I would be seen immediately in A&E without having to wait...

Are you going to get vaccinated?

I asked about this when I had my booster and was told emphatically by the GP giving the jab that they are full doses, no matter if you are immune suppressed or not. This was the Pfizer. Previous 2 were the Astra Zeneca. I believe the Moderna booster is a half dose for some reason. As I said...

COVID Booster and spike in blood glucose levels

I have had both the vaccinations and the booster with no rise in BG levels on any of them, and no side effects other than a mildly sore arm and a bit of a headache after the first one.

GP surgery no longer carrying out diabetic annual feet checks

My annual foot checks stopped when I was declared as in remission. I did ask the nurse at the time, and she explained it is no longer done for remission people. That was a few years ago now.

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

You were exactly the same as I was on diagnosis. I was lucky in that I had a repeat HbA1c a week or two later and was much the same but had done very little in the meantime to help myself, so I was diagnosed T2. At my next test 3 months later my HbA1c was 46 and has since dropped. I am still in...

Why I think LCHF doesn't improve beta cell function

Thank goodness I'm not a mouse. It has worked for me, I lost over 4 stones and have maintained my ideal weight now for 7 years.

HBA1C of 55 but doc says no metformin?

When I was diagnosed in 2014 my HbA1c was 53. Metformin was never mentioned, and it wasn't until I found this forum that I even knew what it was. I have never been prescribed any diabetes drugs and am thankful for that. Normally, if the HbA1c is borderline, a second test is carried out to...

    Type 1 in children

When the GP took a blood test reading of 27, was that a finger prick test? If not, what was it? 27 is high, but all depends on what she last ate and when.

Why worry about a splash of milk in tea/coffee ???

Coffee with cream is a comfort food for me, but not needed for a long time now. It always reminded me of coffee made with all milk - no water. That was what I used to drink when needing something comforting. I also occasionally drink black coffee if I am out somewhere, but I stopped drinking...

Type 2, but no rise in levels at all after any of my 3 jabs.

    Blood Sugar Range??

The HbA1c and the snapshot glucose readings from our meter readings are completely different. Apples and Pears.. On our meters we should aim for no more than a 2mmol/l increase from immediately before eating to 2 hours after first bite. This is just a snapshot of what your levels were at the...

    Your thoughts on fructose

I used Rapilose to do my home OGTT. It is supposed to be pure glucose. I can't say I found it very sweet.

    Your thoughts on fructose

Personally I avoid all fructose apart from 4 strawberries once a week :) I certainly do not avoid alcohol (red wine) so my liver needs a break! I do eat a lot of peas though!
