How can i put on weight or maintain my weight?

I'm trying to lose weight, but I do find that 2 slices of Burgen Soya and Linseed bread put weight on me. I eat 60 grams of carbs a day - keeping mainly to low density ones to lose weight. I'd suggest going for a few of the denser carbs - like bread, with butter or olive oil, brown rice...

    Meters

On the Spirit website (Caresens) they will send you a free meter if you buy some of their strips - which at £12.75 for 50 are the cheapest I've found. Cheers Ailz

    What to have for Breakfast?

Hi ginx Adding some protein would help. I've seen several newspaper reports recently showing that adding an egg to a child's breakfast seems to give them more energy and helps them to be more alert in the morning. Perhaps a boiled egg with the toast. Cheers Ailz

What do we want from our forum?

You will never stop the them and us attitude which seems to be going on with a certain blog and this site. All anyone can do is to work, as Sid says, on a do as you would be done by rule. Sniping soon stops if it's ignored. I find that if someone is very rude to me - and they have been at...

Re: Diabetes getting you down.. I get mischievous. People, who know me always know when I'm either overtired of feeling down as I start teasing them or playing jokes on them. Or even worse singing - I can't follow a tune! I find acting chirpy and cheerful usually cheers me up - if it doesn't...

    Thirsty when high

You are thirsty because the insulin carrying the sugars is being refused by your cells and your body is trying to get rid of it as fast as possible. That means you want to drink lots and lots of liquid in order to get as much of the sugars into your urine as possible. Cheers Ailz

    Cookbook

You can get pretty well any recipe that you can find in a book somewhere on line. I often put in an ingredient and then look for one I fancy. BBC Good Food are a favourite of mine. I then print the recipe off and put it in a folder where I can find it again - and copy into a file of my own...

How many times do you test your BG?

It depends - I'm a type 2 so that makes a difference - but I test every time I eat something I've not had before - or if I feel odd at all. My dad is on Insulin and he tests before every meal and 2 hours afterwards - and if any reading gives him cause for concern. Cheers Ailz

    I think I need help :S

Sweets aren't good for anyone. Tell your friends that you've decided to be kind to your body - and your skin, you are at a good age for it, now is when you are likely to get skin eruptions and greasy skin etc. It's the only body you have so tell them straight that you're giving up putting...

    Lancet Needles

I keep reusing mine too. Probably for a month each - or longer, if I'm not testing so much. Sometimes someone will ask to use my meter and I always change it then. Cheers Ailz

Should you - if you can get away with it?

Slow and subtle are the most dangerous. If you had a really 'bad' thing - a huge detrimental meal you'd know about it you'd be able to get back on the straight and narrow but, a little here and a little there and before you know it it adds up. I'm inclined to agree with Patch about cumulative...

    Put on weight

My bg is usually between 5 & 6 so is wonderful. I keep on telling myself this is for my diabetes not weight loss, but, at 6 stone overweight it would be nice if I lost weight too. Since I started on this site I've lost nearly a stone and I do feel better for doing low carb - although it goes...
