    A suprise

I take bitter melon as a powder in capsule form, along with a lot of other supplements. Has definitely helped me, especially with readings after meals. so hope you can keep going with it. Berberine also seems to help me, and possibly gymnema sylvestre (all bought as capsules/powder on Amazon)...

    Gliclazide and weight gain

Have taken myself off Gliclazide slowly over past 4 months................was on 240mg per day. Not told my GP yet. I did this because I wanted to try intermittent fasting a la Jason Fung, and was a bit worried about hypos. Before doing this, my weight loss had stalled, but since off...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

How high did the fish and chips send you Brunneria (or is that a rude question?)

    New to all this

I've lost weight and got BG down a lot with low carb high fat.................results below. I aim for less than 50g carbs daily, but often end up at 70-80g. I aim for 80% of my calories from fat = about 60% of fat by food weight. So, 50 grams carbs, 70 grams protein, 150 grams fat roughly...

    Peripheral Neuropathy

I have quite mild peripheral neuropathy, But severe autonomic neuropathy including gastroparesis. Peripheral neuropathy I've had for last 10 years, but definitely been helped a lot over past 4 months by Alpha lipoic acid, 1200mg a day. Licensed for neuropathy in Germany since the 1960's.

    Has anyone given up chocolate?

I crave chocolate +++. I have tried every low carb chocolate going, but they all taste horrible, or contain polyols like maltitol, lactitol or isomalt, which do raise my BG slightly, and after more than 10 grams, get horrible GI side effects. however, recently discovered cavalier chocolate with...

People on CGMS/Libre: What is your target range and what % of the time do you spend there?

I use a libre on and off.................on my 4th sensor after 4 months. I am type 2. I keep changing the target range as each sensor is different - so I do a lot of fingerprick testing in the first few days to callibrate it. have had one that was about 0.5 under, one 0.5 over, one 1.5-2.0...

    My experience with Gymnema Sylvestre

Thanks Oldvatr, your posts are encouraging me to continue with Gymnema. I'm also on bitter melon, Berberine, pterocarpus marsupium, ivy gourd, turmeric, fenugreek. Lost track regarding what is working, but definitely convinced by bitter melon - this reduces me as my Bg is climbing, whereas...

What to have with curry instead of rice

Rice gives me a huge spike, but curry just doesn't seem right without it (and a nan bread) However, 3 nights ago I was brave and had an M & s lamb rogan josh by itself, no accompaniment at all, 18 grams of carbs, delicious, didn't really miss the rice too much. I if I can do it, anyone can.

    Porridge Oats

Me too, just a small bowl of porridge, even with loads of double cream in it, sends me above 10.0 every time, whether morning or evening. But everyone is different, so as Brunneria says, you must test to find out.

    my sugar levels

Hi, It is not unusual at all for blood glucose to go higher during or after exercise. Also, most type 2's suffer with the "Dawn phenomenon", where glucose is higher when you wake up, than when you went to bed. This is because our livers turn glycogen and protein into glucose. The level can keep...

    HB1AC creeping up...

Hi, I think you may be miscalculating your carbs..............although you list a lot of alternatives, Toast/porridge/kidney beans/rice/new potatoes/cereal will all raise your BG significantly..................you could be closer to 150-200g per day? Then it is possible you have reactive hypos...

    Shocked!

Hi NurseDee Please please stick with your LCHF diet. Others may disagree, but I think a slightly "high" cholesterol is actually good for you. I was inspired by reading "The great cholesterol con" by Malcolm Kendrick, a UK GP. He provides overwhelming evidence that cholesterol has very little...

    Paleo and Type 2?

Hi MissMac, Paleo is really just another version of low carb, but perhaps not as high fat as some other low carb diets. Most people on strict paleo avoid all dairy, which i would find impossible, but some people find that dairy raises their sugar a bit or stops them losing weight, causes IBS...

Second Hb1Ac result need a bit of help here!

Hi 6cats, I think if your "average" BG stays at about 6.6, and you don't go above 8 too often after meals, I would expect your hba1c to be around 42 (6.0) or even a little lower if you get it checked again in a couple of months time. But 48 is still brilliant - most doctors are delighted with...

Which is worse?.............short, very high spike, or a long, moderately high spike?

Thanks for all the responses guys and gals. If I keep thinking about long wide hummocks, it might take my mind off microchips and chocolate for a while.
