Trying to get out of Keto

Welcome to the forums ! How are you adjusting your insulin to deal with the added carbs ?

Where I am, these are the only insulins covered by the provincial plan, and not completely. If you want a different kind of insulin, such as the Novarapid I was on prior, you have to pay full price - well over $100 per box of 5. Probably all three - it comes down to how the rich can get richer...

What about using ground chicken? Ground beef? Ground turkey? They're cheaper. $7 a pound is for the chicken alone; sure the canned soups cost less but look at all the cheap ingredients that are in the mix that make the price of the chicken they contain way higher than $7 a pound. Noodles and...

I hear ya and sympathize. I'm in Canada too. My income is very low. Fortunately, now that I'm senior, the test strips, lancets and needles are fully covered by the province; and, the price of insulin (I am also on Basaglar and Trurapi) is reduced to about $20 per box of 5. I think you do...

Of course we all die eventually; but, no matter what type of diabetes you have, there are effective ways of managing it, so that if you keep your blood sugar in range, the chances of dying from complications are the same as for non-diabetics. This is a great place to learn and get your...

    support has gone

If I were you, I would calculate my carbs as accurately as possible, especially wary of sauces. I'm not familiar with Asian food - do you prepare it from scratch yourself or buy ready-made? Be careful for anything hidden in ready-made food.

I'm in Canada and things are different here, varying from province to province.

    support has gone

Sorry to hear about your blood sugar problems. I don't have any medical support at all, other than an annual check-up with my gp, which in my opinion means I must take responsibility for my health and deal with it entirely on my own. Usually I am in range, but when I have many spikes I can't...

    Insulin change

Not too sure what you mean, but my Trurapi pens have the same markings for units and on the dial at the top as does NovaRapid.

I feel helpless. . Someone give me some hope.

I would suggest dealing with your blood sugar readings first. Especially if you reduce your carb consumption in order to stabilize and reduce your blood sugar, your life-expectancy will increase; you may also lose weight and that will help with your mental as well as physical health. My...

    Insulin change

I also have been changed from NovaRapid to Trurapi and haven't noticed any difference. They are both, in my experience, slow to bring down blood glucose.

    Introduction

Welcome to the forums. What sort of diet do you follow? I'm type 1 and so probably not much help but others will answer soon with their experience. Many type 2s and pre-diabetics have gone into remission on the low-carb diet.

    Fed up

I totally relate and sympathize. Thanks for the rant - reminds me that I am not alone in my experience of medics - although I am forever grateful to them for saving my life in a number of life-threatening emergencies.

    Keto and weight loss

Are you saying 200 grams of carbs per meal, so that's like 600 carbs a day? I had no choice but to eat a very high carb diet when I was in hospital last year for a month and afterwards it took me 3 months to break the carb habit and come down to where I am today (approx 70/day or less). My...

Does including fat increases the ratio of insulin needed per carb?

Carbs eaten with fat will get into the blood slower than carbs eaten on their own, so I would still need the same amount of insulin but the timing of when I would take the insulin (prebolus or not or 2 partial doses) would vary.

    Keto and weight loss

I find that if I stick to approx 70 carbs per day, I maintain my weight and my blood sugar stays in range. The reason I won't increase the carbs is that I find my swings between spikes and crashes are too scary.

    Understanding the numbers

Did you check the carb content on the pack of cottage cheese? Onions have carbs and so do peppers (onions more though). Plus stress often raises blood sugar.

    Vision loss at 42.

I'm super happy to hear that. Don't give up no matter what - it sets an important precedent for the kids, who of course will have their own problems as we all eventually do. Many hugs to you.

    Keto and weight loss

You are in a difficult situation. It's your body and you have to do what you think is right for your health. You can't change other people, but you should not do what they want if it's contrary to your own beliefs.
