    Statins

Target cholesterol levels for non-diabetics are: Total cholesterol less than 5 HDL above 1.2 LDL less than 3 so those are okay triglycerides below 1.7 and the lower the better. These are even "badder" than LDL...

    Funded cgm

Hi, donnellysdogs - good to see you back! I'm being thick today, I'm afraid - what's a cgm? :eh:  :D Viv 8)

    Is my BS high

For Type 2, your second test 2 hours after the glucose drink would be over 11; you sound to be pre-diabetic still - but I'm no expert! Discuss it with your GP. As for cholesterol - contrary to popular opinion, dietary fat only accounts for about 20% of your total cholesterol; the rest is made...

    PLEASE HELP! DIET NIGHTMARE...

Hi Geddron Have a look at Viv's Modified Atkins Diet which is in the "Sticky Threads" bit. It is very low carb, working out at about 25g per day. As you will see, it is a comprehensive list of low- or no-carb foods that you can eat freely - only a few of the quantities are limited. Not much...

    Simvastatin caution

It's getting that way for me too! It's okay for you - bald men are sexy! Mmm - Yul Brynner  . Why is it that all the men I fancy(ied) are dead? Viv 8) Tee hee! I've just derailed my own thread! Sorry, folks.

    Can a non-type 2 get a hypo?

Well, my alcohol-induced ones, before I was diabetic, were certainly hypos - "palpitations, tremor, sweating" out of Phoenix's description. They would wake me up in the early morning, and scare me silly because I thought it was a heart problem. GP when asked looked vague and checked my heart -...

OK, what I'm I meant to stick my ham between???

On the occasions when I am working on site all day, I can manage a sandwich made up of 2 slices of Tesco's Finest Multigrain, thickly buttered, spread with mayonnaise, and then the filling. The fat in the butter and mayonnaise slows down the conversion of the carbs in the bread into glucose...

    Food Ratios CARBS-FAT--PROTEIN.

Hi there! I'm afraid I can't really help you on the correct ratios for you, but here's what I do: My diet is in the "Sticky Thread" section - Viv's Modified Atkins Diet. A member on here worked out for me the food group ratios I eat on that, and it works out at 8% carb, 28% protein and 64%...

    Very low A1c (3.7)

I've just searched "HbA1c" on this site; apparently the non-diabetic range for HbA1c is between 3.5 and 5.5, so you seem to be doing really well :D . Well done, and keep on doing whatever it is that you are doing - it's obviously worked for you. Viv 8)

    Can a non-type 2 get a hypo?

I hadn't really thought this through before - most of my non-diabetic hypo symptoms have been caused by too much alcohol! As BF says, anyone can get a hypo, diabetic or not. The liver would usually dump glucose/glycogen (?right word) if a non-diabetic was going hypo, but if you haven't...

Funny looks at the chemist's !!!

Good for you, GraceK! As a friend of mine used to say, "The thing about common sense is that it's not very common." Tomatoes on the bottom, indeed! Viv 8)

    some atkins/low carb questions

Have a look at Viv's Modified Atkins Diet which is on the "Sticky Thread" section. It works for me! Fraddycat has said most of what I would. I can't start the day without a coffee with semi-skimmed milk. I also use a splash of milk in the eggs for my omelette. Doesn't seem to slow things down...

    Help me please

I've come late to this thread, WJ, but I'm full of sympathy and hope you're going on well. If you have to fracture your pelvis, falling off a horse is the best way to do it  The problem NHS staff have, I think, is that they're taught about Type 1 but not much about Type 2. Readings in...

Pros and Cons of being diagnosed as Diabetic

Hi LouiseW I can empathise with your sutuation - who wants to be labelled? - but I think you need to bite the bullet and accept that you are, or most certainly will be, diabetic. I was diagnosed Type 2 in April 2010. I promptly went low-carb (Atkins Induction), have lost 60lbs+, and seldom...
