Anyone else out there experiencing ICP

Yes, I do, but I have no insight into why etc. I'd also be interested if anyone has any pearls of wisdom! I'm T1D for 30 years by the way

Type 1: 11 year old son who loves chocolates and sweets

Ultimately it comes down to self control though, my parents restricted my treats but I would spend lunch money on sweets & chocolate from the corner shop. If you make them too 'forbidden' he may end up craving them even more, as children do with a lot of things, so it's got to be a balancing...

Feeling down as I don't feel my control is a priority for my diabetes team

I think there is something about shift working in the guidelines for pump eligibility for exactly this reason. Take at look at http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/ - they may be able to help

    Need advice please

Some fab advice already but I just wanted to add a note about eating more fruit - fruit can be very high in sugar. I think it's berries that are recommended but a look around the Low Carb forum would answer it for definite. (I don't eat fruit so have no idea!)

    Diabetes Awareness Month

Sad but true in many cases, but there are people who do listen and care. And really we don't need everyone to know all the details - even just getting across that it's not as simple as "eat some lettuce and go for a walk" is a good start

    Hi I'm new here

Sounds like you've got a fab attitude and are definitely going in the right direction! Hopefully with your hard work, and the support you can get on here, you can prove the doctor wrong!

    Diabetes Awareness Month

That's exactly why we need to get our own message out there - not so much making people aware of diabetes but making them aware of what diabetes actually is. I know it's only a small drip in a huge pool but I always like & share relevant posts on facebook, and for this month I have changed my...

    Low carb potatoes

@Administrator is it possible to get a number of people that have posted in or read the Low Carb forum? Maybe for the last 6 months or something? Just thinking it might be good to do a message to Tesco giving them an idea of the current/potential demand for LC foods. Or a % of traffic...

Type 1: Sensations in lips when low

Yes! I get a pale line around my lips too and when I was younger my mum used to know I was hypo before I did because of it! I think it must be because our lips are a particularly sensitive part of the body - bad news for hypos but good for kissing :D

Type 2 On insulin: A little bit confused about bread?

That's a very sweeping statement and I disagree - I have a sandwich for lunch everyday and can manage the spike by timing my insulin.

POLL: Have you tried the Freestyle Libre yet?

I used to occasionally knock mine off, or find it sisn't stick well if I was hot, but now I use tape to keep mine in place and haven't had any problems since. This is the one I use but I've read of people using alternatives, it looks expensive but remember you only use a small piece every 2...

Argh I'm an idiot, stacking advice

Put it down to experience and move on, You are doing absolutely the right thing by monitoring and recording her results and you will learn as you go but you must remember that even the most 'perfect' T1s will have spurious highs/lows and forget things like IOB occasionally. And perhaps...

    Furious with my mum's doctors!

I think I'm going to talk to my GP about the need for fasting blood tests after reading this. I have a problem with the fear of hypos and get stressed when I'm not allowed to eat, the stress causes me to spike and then my blood sugar is always high for the test! (If I actually do go hypo I of...

I need to know everything about how cannabis can will treat diabetes

Thanks @asparagusp - interesting stuff, fortunately I don't have neuropathy but it's something to bear in mind. Would be a bit odd to turn to it in middle-age after being 'good' through my younger years but I think I'd consider it!

I need to know everything about how cannabis can will treat diabetes

I've heard all sorts of things being suggested as treatments for diabetes but never cannibis. I'm curious why your friend is researching this?

    Retinopathy Success!

I've had laser treatment for a couple of years but my retinopathy was getting worse as my bloods were still out of control. So earlier this year I started having Eyelea injections, and have made a good start on control bringing my HbA1c down to 8.5% (yes I know it's still high but it was 13.8%...

iPhone app to record blood tests and diet?

I use mySugr and love it. I'm T1 and it's great for recording everything, but you can 'hide' the insulin sections in the settings and just use it for bloods and food. It's great for recording what else you were doing that may affect your blood sugars, like exercise, stress or illness, and...
