    The Jury Is In!

@Squire Fulwood Let's just say I was nutritionally ignorant .... Well perhaps oblivious! Here goes......, Chips a couple of times a week, takeaway Chinese probably once a week, toast most days for breakfast, sandwiches and pasties most days for lunch - oh and a few pints of Stella most...

    The Jury Is In!

Well first 3 months full result. Hba1c - 44 Serum Cholesterol - 4.3 Trigl - 0.6 HDL - 1.29 Chol ratio 3.3 Still not testing, still having 'the evil four' - but in moderation (of course). Well pleased with that. PN and 'memsahib' also really happy! (PN was amazed 'if only they were all like...

Type 2 To Snack Or Not To Snack

@LyndaER I'm only 3 months ahead of you, and I have (I'd like to think) 'sorted myself out' in that time. ALL of my statistics are now considered 'normal'. I am more 'carbohydrate conscious' than I was before, but I do still have and do enjoy Sandwiches sometimes - although now (following the...

    How Can That Be Possible?

As I was told on being labelled - 'it' doesn't mean the end of everything - just in moderation and or occasionally - assuming they don't do this everyday - doesn't it meet that criteria???

    Metformin & alcohol

As I understand it Stella has 14g of 'deadly carbs' per pint ..... Less than Weetabix and a slice of whole meal toast. Therefore if I miss Breakfast for a few days, I can still have a few at a weekend and stay low(ish) carb - hussar!!!! Don't worry - tongue still in cheek!

    Metformin & alcohol

:joyful: Wow! I'm suprised. My PN said she would ban Cider if she could - it is (apparently) the worst / highest sugar content 'long drink' you could think of - but hey what does she know, she works for the NHS (tongue very much in cheek here). Thankfully I've never drunk Cider - only Stella...

    Type 2 and lost

@melliemars My 'diabetes week' looks exactly as it did before I was 'labelled' ..... the only difference are, I now spend a lot more time being active, cycling, walking in the Gym etc ... and in the main enjoying being fitter (and significantly slimmer). My diet consists of 'sensible' stuff...

    First visit to Diabetes Nurse.

That is exactly what I got. My PN has been brilliant so far. I've had 2 appointments over the last 3 months with another next week. Equally she has pulled together all the 'prodding and poking' and 'educating' I've now been subjected to. She has also said if you need us or want us, just book an...

    Diabetic medication

If you are Rxed an antibiotic - the chances are the cost to the NHS is literally pennies. If for example you are Rxed some of the more specialised Drugs for Rheunatoid Arthritis the cost to the NHS is £800 per month .... some drugs even higher. As alluded to - those who do have to pay make a...

    New to site. Type1.

I too have rediscovered Cylcing as a way of being more active and getting fitter ..... , and something the 'memsahib and my son have also joined me in. ..... Why did I wait soooo long to do it - we all enjoy it. My Fitbit tells me that a good couple of hours plus Cycling at a nice pace (not...

    Hba1c advice

I agree with @6cats with a similar journey. I lost 4st in 3 months with hba1c down from 97 to 53 (hba1c result after 2 months). I don't trust or LCHF either - but admit I'm more carb conscious than I was. I can't fault my Practice Nurse she had been brilliant with me and amazed at what I've done...

    newbie with problems!!

@Tawa93 I was 'labelled' 3 months ago and my hba1c at that time was 97 ... not much less than yours. I've taken the 3 key elements to heart that I was told by the health care professionals very much, eat healthily, i.e. Cut out the **** - I'm sure you know exactly what I mean, get regular...

    newbie with problems!!

Don't worry, exactly the same happened to me a couple of weeks after I was 'labelled', and it lasted a week or so. I too was terrified I was losing my sight already! After dramatically reducing my intake of sugar etc my GP reassured me that previously the Lens had probably been full of glucose...

    Hard to believe!!!!

If I could help support just one single person and help them stop by encouragement, perhaps saying the absolute obvious it would be very worth it! And I completely concur with your bottom comment .... but stop we did! ;)

    Hard to believe!!!!

OK folks. I appreciate this post may draw fire, and I may even get removed or banned, and have thought long and hard before posting it - bit feel I now need to. I have frequented this forum for a little over 3 months and in that time have been quite amazed at some of the lengths folks will go...

    Help with diet

I may well be rebel! ...... I still enjoy an apple a day, usually with my lunch and more often than not a banana before a 'phys' session either in the Gym, running or Cycling - I do need the fuel! I also now enjoy melon, but some say good, some say bad! Fruit is much better than my previous...

    Red Wine

P.S. If I do have to pay for going to the Gym, I would much rather pay for that knowing it is having an extremely positive effect on my well being, CV system, fitness etc etc than I would paying for test strips and self testing! .... Just my view! :)

    Red Wine

I don't think so, but where I live they do 'prescribe' activity and pay for those who want to and have a 'clinical need' to get fit with referrals to local leisure centres for structured exercise plans and gym membership I'm already 'smashing the phys' without it but have got a referral through...

    Red Wine

Understanding alcohol reduces BS and that Lager increases BS levels isn't it a real pity the 2 don't cancel each other out - and there is zero effect on BS! ..... toooo much to ask! Oh well back to the G&Ts and continue to look longingly at the pint of Stella! I sooo miss! :(

    Blood tests for T2's

@Neverbloobloo I am VERY happy with my practice and treatment. Both the Dr and the PN are both quite relaxed and given time for things to happen etc, and equally within the first 2 months I had been given ALL the checks and referrals I needed - arranged by them. The PN had seen how I've...
