Thank you @Metabolism_Boss . I will read that with great interest.

    Is SBMI better than BMI?

I got as 'good' score of 34/70, so I was obviously impressed. However, reading the various articles on the site shows it is typical high carb, low fat US propaganda, so I am now not impressed at all. Although I do like the fact that it makes an allowance for gender and age.

    Vitamin B complex supplement

I just had my annual review with the diabetes nurse at my GP practice. All was fine, my results were spot on apart from my lipids, which are OK with me, but a little high on their guidelines. She asked if I was still taking statins, I said no and she didn't pursue it. However, she suggested...

Chia seeds - why are they high in carbs

The chia seeds I currently use say 6.7g carbs/100g. Previously I have used ones at 4.5g. I suppose it depends on the type and source. Anyway, not too much to worry about, especially if you use them sprinkled on other meals, as I do. I find the combination of magnesium citrate and chia seeds...

    Diet creep

I have been troubled by my weight and fbs since the start of the year. Both have crept up inexorably, so that on 1 September, my weight was 77.3 kg , my fbs was 6.1 mmol/l and my ketones were 0.8 mmol/l. I therefore decided to check everything I ate over the following week and revert to my...

    CNN article

An interesting article from CNN... https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/26/health/intermittent-fasting-jared-sklar-wellness-live-longer/index.html Could have been sponsored by Dr Fung (but wasn't).

    Cleaning CPAP Machine!

I use a Resmed device supplied by the NHS. The user manual says how to clean it - https://www.resmed.com/uk/dam/documents/products/machine/s9-series/user-guide/s9-autoset-s9-elite_user-guide_eur1_eng.pdf I think this would apply to all cpap machines.

    Cleaning CPAP Machine!

I take my hose and mask into the shower with me and let hot, soapy water run through them, then rinse them. After my shower I hang them somewhere to dry. I do this weekly. My water container never gets mucky because I only fill it with purified water. One thing I always forget is to shake out...

Meat effect on fasting blood sugar

When I eat more protein, my fbg always goes up. I think some of us are more prone to gng than others, so it kicks in when there is any "excess". I am not saying this is the same for everyone, but I have a history of this happening to me over many years. I think 60g/day of protein for me is...

New Scientist - clean your teeth!

Many of these diseases have feedback loops, in which the disease gets worse because of the symptoms. It is difficult to separate cause and effect. However, this is the first time I have seen a single causal effect described for so many diseases. If you can, I recommend you read the full article.

New Scientist - clean your teeth!

Hi @mariavontrapp I'm sorry about that, I didn't realise you wouldn't be able to see it all. The article says that a lot or things are caused by dental disease, in particular by the bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis. Apparently, it promotes inflammation and is associated strongly with...

    Zoe Harcombe post

This morning, I received the anticipated email from Zoe's blog on the recent statin "revelations". The main point, after deconstructing the research, is the quote This study could have been reported as “Those who have the lowest pre-statin LDL-C have more CVD over the next few years”. It should...

Has anyone here tried high carb low fat diet completely plant based.

And I'd wager that the high carb, low FACT diet is common amongst most dieters.

Research investigates strength of factors in link between type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea

As someone with T2 and sleep apnoea, I can agree with that. However, my sleep apnoea started when I was overweight and drank too much alcohol. With sleep apnoea, however, there doesn't seem to be a way to "cure" it - I was recently told that I am still stopping breathing during sleep too many...

    Type 2 Latest HBA1c

I think you will find that statins increase your bg levels slightly, at least that's what I found since I came off statins. This is also suggested by the fact that T2D is down as one of the side effects of statins. So best avoided in my opinion.

Metformin will be the death of me!

Strange - I was recently on 10mg Atorvastatin and they were tiny. So small in fact that I was always worried about dropping one when I put them in my pill box in case my lovely dog gobbled them up! If you want large, try magnesium citrate 200mg! Not a medical recommendation of course.

    The knives are out..

Funnily enough, I chose today to stop taking statins. I first stopped after getting my T2 under control with LCHF, then went back on a low dose after my cholesterol went through the roof (over 10) - I am a high responder. But after 18 months or so, I eventually persuaded my wife that, with my...
