    New arrival!

Hello all, I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your advice and support through my pregnancy. Yesterday, 16th December we welcomed our little boy Jacob Robert McVay. Born naturally after induction at 38 weeks. All went smoothly and only took 14 hours from start to finish. He's a big boy 8lb...

    Induction: what is it like?

My hospital have advised me that they don't have wireless monitors and my drip will restrict me pretty much to the bed or just beside it. Not looking forward to this labour now... but if baby gets here safely that's what matters. Don't think I can use Tens machine either due to monitoring as it...

    Induction: what is it like?

That's not good. I'm going to call the hospital today and get someone to explain it all to me. I feel quite anxious now.

    Induction: what is it like?

Hello, After your advice I've been reading up of this sliding scale drip I'll be given. It sounds like it restricts your movements during labour from what people say. Is this true? If so what alternatives are there? Can I monitor my levels and inject/eat myself. As I say I had a great water...

    Induction: what is it like?

Thanks @witlib and @darkhorse. I have to say I am not impressed with my care Since I switched hospitals. My first one was brilliant but couldn't offer the best birth or after care for me so I moved to a hospital which specialises in high risk pregnancies. However you get seen by an older...

    Induction: what is it like?

Hello everyone, So sorry to keep asking questions but I'm full of them and my midwife can't seem to give me a full picture as it's 'years' since she has been on an actual maternity ward. I also don't want to google too much and scare myself. I have my induction date for Friday 15th December...

Bruised injection sites or pressure bruises

Thanks for the replies. I keep my levemir pen in my insulin kit pouch, so at room temp. Only thing I can think is it's a combo of injection site and pressure points. X

Bruised injection sites or pressure bruises

No I'm quite gentle with putting the needle in and then just click slowly. Also I don't pinch the skin. Never had any issues previous to this, I've had the odd small bruise on my stomach from novorapid injections where I've knocked the pen which injecting but they were only the side of a 1p...

Bruised injection sites or pressure bruises

Hello all, Today I have just realised that I have a bruised slightly hardened area at the top of my legs where I take my levemir. I have only switched to levemir from glargine as my long acting insulin the the past 4-5 weeks. I'm also 35 weeks pregnant and finding sleeping very tough due to...

    When did you get induced?

Hello, I am 35 weeks pregnant and next week I will be getting my induction date. I have good control with a hba1c of 34, I'm newly diagnosed so probably honeymooning. They originally mentioned to me that I'd be induced at 38 weeks but now say 39. However this will mean induction on 22nd December...

    Miscarriage and Hypos Every Day

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. I have had 2 as well and the last one was extremely tough. I sought some support from a counsellor and I have to say it cost a bit but it was worth every penny. They can't give you answers as I know you will be thinking about why it happened and how unfair...

What to eat when pregnant for snacking

I've found graze boxes quite useful for snacks, I get one a week and it comes with each snacks nutritional info, means a bit of variety. I'm type 1 but haven't really struggled with highs more lows so lots of snack have been required. Got 2 in my bag at all times. X

25 weeks pregnant, baby only on 10th percentile. Advice for a worry Mum please...

Wednesday next week. Time can't go quick enough. They have told me the most important thing is to keep an eye on his movements. If they slow or I'm concerned they don't feel as strong I need to go in asap. He's been a busy baby today so fingers crossed that's a good sign. X

25 weeks pregnant, baby only on 10th percentile. Advice for a worry Mum please...

I've spoke to a consultant and diabetic midwife today. They are concerned but need to know if he is just small and if he stays on the 10th centile. However if he doesn't and drops at my next scan they might need to deliver him as my placenta is not working properly. I'm only just coming up to 26...

25 weeks pregnant, baby only on 10th percentile. Advice for a worry Mum please...

Hello all, I really really need some words of advice or knowledge to calm me down. Today I had an appointment at my new hospital after changing to a new one. I haven't seen specialist for 6 weeks. At the appointment the new hospital realised the old one didn't do a fetal echo. They weren't...

Pregnancy weight gain and increased insulin

Hello all, I just wanted to ask what everyone else's experiences were of weight gain in pregnancy when diabetic. I'm type 1 diabetic and was only diagnosed in February after losing around a stone whilst I diagnosed. I put the stone back in quickly as I started to use insulin. I then fell...

When did your insulin needs start to change?

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it. I have spoken to my consultant about adjusting insulin ratios due to hypos but as my hour after readings are just right they didn't want to change it. The hypos happen when I don't eat for a while and I'm busy at work (teaching a practical...
