    leg cramps

Hi, I live in Norwood Green, play tennis in Osterley (Thistleworth Club) & my baby grandson lives with his parents in Isleworth. See my post on P. 1. We might meet up. Are you aware of the Hounslow Cardio/Diabetes Support Group which meets in the Montague Hall last Tuesday every month? Search...

    Porridge With Topping of ...

Butter or cream should be OK - they won't affect your BG, should make the porridge more sustaining & unlikely to have an adverse affect on your cholesterol.

    Coconut flour

I buy coconut flour for about £4 per Kg - TRS coconut powder. It's a fine flour, not fine dessicated. My recipe for an basic unsweetened cake is: I sieve nut flour together & use them as flour to make in effect a smooth sponge cake - cake-bread - but without sugar. Approx recipe: 150 g (4 oz)...

    Trying an experiment

I've been on 3 standard MF daily for years. Lately my overnight reading has been drifting up from below 6 to just below 7. I've been trying the slow release version to see if it helps. There is some improvement. I need to analyse the results.

No doubt she got the best possible diet advice from DUK, & that 50% carb diet aggravated her condition. 2 injections a day? For T1 ? How many of you T1s manage satisfactory control on 2 injections ?

    leg cramps

Hi Beryl, you've come to the place where you get advice from people who have learnt from experience - in my case I was diagnosed 12 years ago, with a numbness in my thighs that I knew wasn't right but didn't actually bother me. I was given the usual advice - keep active, eat low sugar/fat/salt...

Type 2 diet controlled false hypos ?

My daily b'fast is a nut porridge: Total of 50 g of - ground almonds, coconut flour (or desiccated c'nut), and flax seed mix That will provide about 25 g fat, with a further 25 g carb, protein & fibre. I normally make it with boiling water, and m'wave for about 1 minute to thicken it. Fell free...

Type 2 diet controlled false hypos ?

Please folks treat Gezza as a serious contributor. You are helping no-one by an antagonistic attitude. Hi Gezza - I note you have changed you diet significantly during the course of this thread: Now your diet comprises: carbs 29%, protein 29%, fat 42%, cals 1500 Carbs - 83 g, 332 kc Protein...

Type 2 diet controlled false hypos ?

No. I used algebra & the rough guide that carb & protein - grams x 4 = kcal, and fat - grams x 7 = kcal. Have you tried increasing fat to provide EMF :?: I am wary of increasing protein significantly. I don't "suffer" low BG - I rarely drop below 5. I played 2 hours tennis last night, after a...

Type 2 diet controlled false hypos ?

Hi Gezza - I thought of your experience & our PMs - & find you got here first :) Other forum members may benefit from Gezza's experience & my comments. IMO I still think your problem is being undernourished. 1500 kcals a day mainly from carbs means that your body cannot maintain a steady BG...

    Hot-Holy ****

I hope you're well enough to achieve what you planned. Suggest you work morning and evening, & take a siesta. My levels have been higher in the sudden heat, but I though I would have one set of tennis yesterday - with the promised heat wave, I may have to give tennis a miss. We had one set...

Feels like a fly crawling on my leg

Re: Feels like a fly crawling on my leg I had this sensation 13 years ago. It didn't bother me, but I went to the Dr & he suspected diabetes - diabetic peripheral neuropathy, subsequently confirmed, with an initial HbA1c of 11. (Nov. 2000) An aspect of the sensation was that I could be lying on...

    Low Glomerular filtration rate (GFR)

Being diagnosed T2 - and taking control of your diet and lifestyle will be a life-saver. You will have lots of questions that will be answered from experience on the forum. Several years ago my Dr told me they were "watching" my eGFR - then in the 60s. It's still in the 60s, after about 10...

Dawn effect - improved by slow release metf

My understanding is that normal MF works for about 8 hours, so taking it at 6-7 p.m. means that it runs out by 2-3 am, & its in my system to counteract the dawn effect. I'll be interested in the longer term results - and any other' experience with slow release MF.

Dawn effect - improved by slow release metf

My fasting readings have been drifting up in recent months - towards 7, whereas they have been around 6. Occasional readings in the small hours have been around 6, so a dawn effect is significant. I asked the Dr for slow release MF to be taken at night as an experiment. Fasting readings are now...

    Diabetes, heart disease and exercise

Hi. My wife had a heart attack 10 years ago, and had 3 stents inserted. Please note: I am not a health professional, and I can only reply from experience. How much exercise you can do safely should be assessed by your medical team. I would strongly recommend BP & BG meters, so you can monitor...
