    Am I still diabetic?

I'll be very interested to see your results, as you seem to be setting standards and making claims that no-one else can match. IF you get results that indicate you are not diabetic, be thankful - but maintain your diet, exercise regime etc, and hopefully stay healthy; OR If your results...

If you take supplements, what do you take them for?

Multivitamins & minerals (30+ components) - to offset the claims that LCHF results in nutrient deficiency Glycosamine/chondroitin - to prevent joint pain - starting with tennis elbow I once had; I do notice joint pain if I stop taking it for a month or so. Vitamin D - my wife has been prescribed...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Re: Famous for 15 minutes at last!! Eddie is right, of course. A diabetic who achieves excellent control without medication, on a diet that provides about 50% of his energy from carbs (250g per day) is not diabetic. It may be you were "pre-diabetic" and your massive change from a very bad diet...

Heart & diet questions - answered?

At the Hounslow Diabetes/Cardio Support group in Hounslow last night, a Hospital consultant came to talk about heart drugs. He came in time to hear the previous presentation on "Heart Muscle Regeneration" by a mother & daughter team. The daughter had studied the heart regeneration ability of...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Gezza, your results are excellent - but suggest you may not be not diabetic. Achieving those results without medication or carb restriction is unlikely for T2 patients. What were your results on diagnosis - have you had a major weight loss, or radical diet change?

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

HbA1c 2000, At diagnosis - 8.6 DUK high carb, low fat diet (around 300 g carb daily) until spring 2008 around 6.5 to 6.8 after low carb 6.0 to 6.3 (next one is due) Exercise - I have played tennis year round for the last 25 years Hospital Gym circuit (a heart rehab group with my wife) for...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Re: bGs versus diet. Your breakfast is the cause of your hypos, IMO. All calories from carb, & little protein or fat. Not sustaining at all, so you get a quick high BG (try measuring after 1 hour) and your energy from b'fast is used up before 2 hours, so you get a hypo. Your HbA1c may be OK...

    Holy Email

The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testifies to everything he saw – that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud...

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! You did not look at the "Position Statement" I was quoting from & linking to - the point of my partial quote was the ridiculously high carb recommendation we all receive from DUK/NHS. It did not occur to...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

For years DUK have been saying they need long term studies on the safety of low carb diets. They even include teh 4-year Swedish studies in their references, yet insist that the long term safety is still in question. I have checked a lot of the references in their "Position Statement" on Low...

Welcome Southport contributor - from low carbers ONLY

He read my PM - I hope he comes back and we can progress for the benefit of ALL diabetics. In that one short term test, he achieved believable results that indicate that low carb is a very helpful way forward. I hope those involved will continue the experiment way of life and achieve lasting...

Welcome Southport contributor - from low carbers ONLY

I've posted this in the Low-carb Diet Forum so that all those who continue to make unpleasant attacks on one who has come here to contribute will KEEP OUT !!! Low carbers have a lot to share both from years of experience and internet searches. Let's make this as constructive as possible.

    Where is Southport GP?

The report was entirely believable - even if a protocol was breached. I can repost the OP or PM it if anyone wants it. It would be an encouragement to us all if GPs were prepared to do such small-scale trials and so get the confidence in the diet.

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Brilliant results doctor! You have shown the way for your colleagues. If even a short term low carb/increased fat test has measurable benefits, it should not be difficult for others health professionals to try - and be convinced. Beware! The great DUK will immediately warn you of the potential...

My Doctor Has No Time For Me..

I would be worried about 10 2 hours after a meal. It suggests an even larger spike after 1 hour. In the days when I followed the DUK high carb diet, my HbA1c was below 7, and I progressively suffered complications. Changing to a low carb diet cleared those complications. Occasional checks on...

    Improvement in retinopathy

I hope so too, for you. I do experiment occasionally, (not often as I don't want to undo the positive progress.) In particular, I have experimented with cereal breakfast or porridge, comparing it with my nut porridge, & measuring BG hourly. My nut porridge stays stable for several hours, only...

    Improvement in retinopathy

I had my annual diabetes eye check yesterday. 10 years ago there were signs of retinopathy - bleeds in the retina. Not then needing treatment, but needed to be watched. It would normally progress to needing laser surgery. Now there is no indication of a problem. I presume it is due my my low...
