    Eating out

Yes we found with fish and chips - my husband took his insulin after the meal rather than before - this seemed to keep the levels at a good level. We don't eat badly but it's just knowing that we can still eat out and enjoy life really it's tricky

    Eating out

Newly diagnosed. We eat healthily most of the time and exercise but we do eat out a lot? My husbands newly type 1. I just wondered how you find eating out? So long as you monitor the insulin to food you can eat pretty much anywhere yes?

    BSL below 7?

Yes thank you this sounds like sensible advice. He is really keen to get back into his exercise so I think if he focused on that for now! And then we look at getting the levels down.

    BSL below 7?

My husband is 5 weeks into his diagnosis. We've had found this forum a strength of support and knowledge. We cannot get his levels at different points in the day lower than 7 something. The GP advised we aim to get lower than this 7. Is it worth upping his long lasting insulin by two units to...

What age were you diagnosed Type 1?

My husband was 30- just diagnosed this January. There is no family history and he was fit and healthy it came as a huge shock! He's adapting well and realising he is still fit and healthy he just needs to be a bit more "grown up" Now with some decisions! I hope this is right and we haven't rose...

Type 1: Spike in levels during night

No he didn't give himself a correction dose at 3am - he didn't do anything. But the fact that he was back down to 8 in the morning shows his long lasting is probably at the right level at the moment yes? It's the fact that the sugar rise has been so spiky- surely this isn't good?

Type 1: Spike in levels during night

So do you think the 18 was due to the pizza? I can't believe it could have such a dramatic effect?! Lots to learn. We feel like it's very trial and error which is scary when it's your health is this normal?

Type 1: Spike in levels during night

He had a pizza - i know this is bad but he'd had a few drinks in the day so had thought to carb up? We are so new to this but in the day he can manage his levels - the highest he is going is 10 which I know is too high but come down a lot since he was diagnosed. But the 18 at 3am concerned us...

    Cold hands

Do you think this is a cause of your diabetes? How is your control? It seems like all of a sudden my husband has all these minor symptoms that we presume are now just down to him being diabetic! Did we just not notice them before, I'm not sure?

    Cold hands

Did it turn out to be reynauds disease or just one of them things that went away?

    Cold hands

Sorry, I keep posting on here at the moment - we are four weeks into my husbands diagnosis so I have so many questions all of the time. The last few times we've been to the football my husbands hands have been freezing. I know this sounds trivial as it has been cold but he's never normally one...

    Newly diagnosed

Yes I suppose it makes sense that by the time we see the consultant we will know a little more and be able to have identified patterns and stuff! I'm just concerned we can't get things stabilised and then we will go to see a consultant and they'll change everything!!

    Newly diagnosed

He has an appointment with the dietician and I think then he will book with the DSN!! We've seen the GP but the GP didn't give us any advice on how to manage it. We are struggling with hypos and levels and yet we aren't seeing a consultant doctor until march, is it ok to wait this long?

    Newly diagnosed

My husbands been newly diagnosed he had one night in hospital and then was sent home. We've been told he won't see a consultant until two months time? Is this normal to wait this long?
  20. K

    Why do hypos happen?

No all I was told when diagnosed two weeks ago was to take 8 units with food and then 12 units of long lasting insulin every night. The DN and dietician said I'd move onto carb counting and adjusting my insulin dependent on exercise and what I'm eating. So I have the dietician this week so I...
