What Is It With Statin Drugs And Doctors?

Wish I could persuade my husband to stop taking them. He did stop them for a while (around the same time we both started LCHF) and the transformation was miraculous. When his cholesterol rose he went back on to statins and returned to being the man who suffers constant aches and pains and feels...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

@Alexandra100 - One of my cats brings me a lot of mice and, once, a live rat, which she refused to have any more to do with once she'd let it loose in the flat. Now, if she could bring back something I'd actually like to eat...

Diabetes on Jeremy Vine show earlier today

@eggs11 - I can vouch for it too. My husband made this cake for my birthday and topped it with a very indulgent ganache. It was proper lush, especially with clotted cream on the side (I'm West Country by birth too). It was such a hit he made it again last weekend, minus the ganache.

    I love mySugr

The app asks me on occasion if I want to upgrade so that I can log medication. As I'm not on any I haven't bothered. @Rachox - thank you for the numbers comparison - very heartening.

3 weeks in and I’m struggling with everything!

@Mrs Allport - wow, what a shocker, but glad that you're already starting to feel better x

    anyone tried these

Not so keen on the Slim Rice, but I love the noodles and pasta. They're a bit pongy when you open the packet, but once they're rinsed they're fine. No need to spend a lot of time cooking them either; just heat them through.

Fasting - Tips and Advice Please

I do 16/8 most days and find it manageable, drinking black coffee and water till lunchtime. When I've done the one meal a day (evening meal only), I kept going throughout the day with bone broth, tea, coffee and water. Surprisingly I didn't need to stuff my face when it came to dinnertime. I...

CAN I PLEASE ASK HOW EXERCISE EFFECTS PEOPLE'S BS

I find intense exercise, such as HIIT, spikes me quite badly, but a couple of hours later I get lovely low readings. But spiking is quite natural as your liver wants to give you some extra energy, so the more intense the exercise, the higher the spike. However, brisk walking, swimming and...

    I love mySugr

I use mySugr too. I wish I'd discovered it before my last Hba1c, not after. At the moment it's telling me my Hba1c is likely to be around 5.8%, or 39.9. I'm due an Hba1c soon, so if the actual result matches the mySugr estimate I'll be overjoyed!

Cautionary tale - just a little bit should be fine.....

@Mel dCP - I was the opposite - almost two stone underweight when I was 20 or 21. To aim for the waist size I had then would be unrealistic, not to mention unhealthy. Of course, I put on weight very quickly once I adopted that new-fangled high-carb, low-carb diet that started doing the rounds...

    back on it

@licklemoose - it happens to the best of us. Thankfully low-carb options are always tasty and enjoyable, so it's nowhere near as difficult getting back on the LCHF wagon as it is to restart one of those boring low-cal, low-fat diets.

    having trouble understanding

Definitely not dangerous. I've never felt better! As to your questions, technically you could live on fat bombs but you'd get awfully bored. For now, eat as much fat as you can manage. Coconut oil and avocados are excellent choices if dairy is problematic.

    Breakfast

Foods rich in cholesterol do not "top up" our own cholesterol levels, so tuck into eggs, liver, etc. if you want. On LCHF I rarely eat breakfast, unless I wake up hungry. I bake a load of eggy muffins (veg, cheese, ham, bacon, onion in muffin trays and topped up with beaten egg; bake at 180C...

Low carb diet to eat more?

Much of the motivation of following a LCHF diet is how quickly you see changes soon after you adopt it. My motivation means I also buy "real food" that does not have a label on it. On the rare occasions that I buy something that is packaged and has a label on it you can guarantee I have...

    Dear judgemental person

Thank you, @AdamJames, for getting off your chest everything I've ever thought when someone has judged me in the same way. I might just let fly next time. You're an inspiration.

@Trippyarsenal - what a stonking result! Congratulations! Love your food pix too. Shakshuka is one of my favourites when I fancy a change from bacon and eggs.
