    Spare insulin ? Africa?

Hi I am pretty sure I had read a post on here about sending unwanted, unused, insulin to Africa, but I've searched and can't find it. Does anyone know if this is possible, and how to go about it? Thanks for any info

    Diabetic life span?

So here the small print for my post above. I slightly underestimated the ages in my example. These figures come from the GAD website, Demographics section, the 2010 cohort based life expectancy tables. (E1 for high life expectancy, whole of UK, and F1 for low life expectancy, UK). Some one 40...

    Diabetic life span?

I agree with brett, for various reasons. I agree that we tend to look after ourselves pretty well, sometimes a lot better than non-diabetics. And despite all our gripes on the forum we do get a lot of attention from Drs, and access to drugs if we want them. That all helps. Recently, I've been...

Insulin and the art of making bread

Hi. Sorry to hear you are feeling lost. Most people have spells like that, even if we have been diabetic a long time. All of a sudden our body reacts differently and we don't know what to do get back in control. If I were in your shoes, I think I'd have two options. First one is to get more...

Is dental care free for a type 1 diabetic in Scotland?

Hi. I have only just moved back to Scotland, and have had trouble even finding a dentist.(Waiting list of a year in our town). Anyway, once we found one in the next town, I paid for my treatment. The form didn't ask about diabetes at all, just about benefits / pregnancy so I think diabetics...

Treating the high after the low

I'm not the science type weeezer was hoping for, so I can't give you a reason for things, but I do treat a high after a low quite differently to a unrelated high. It just always seemed to me they were quite different, and had a different effect on me. For example, let's say I woke up in the...

    Exceptionally tired since starting insulin

Meercat, Sorry to hear about your tiredness. If you can link it back to starting the insulin, then perhaps the Lantus doesn't suit you? Like any other drug, Lantus will suit some people, but not all. Could you suggest to your Dr and nurse switching to another type of insulin?

    Work/Retinopathy

Glad you seem to be dealing with it well. I might be wrong, but I think the normal is probably 1200. I say that because all 3 lots I have had, at different hospitals with different symptoms were 1200. The first session was quite uncomfortable so the Dr split it 500, 400, 300. It is only...

    Work/Retinopathy

I'm glad to hear you are feeling nearly back to normal (particularly since I said laser isn't a big deal  ). Thinking back to my first lot of laser, which was pretty high powered I think, I had something unexpected happen, which I will mention just in case it happens to you. About a...

Type 1 30 Years Having Serious Problems

Hi. I know how you feel. I have been T1 for 44 years, and am fed up with (some) Drs who have no understanding. Things can improve for you, so stick in there. Some recent examples of Drs sticking to a script? I have proliferative retinopathy in one eye, and when I saw a young Dr two years ago...

    Any advice appreciated

Hi David, I'd say that if you suspect the Lantus is not good for you, then swapping to something else must be a good idea. I gave up Lantus a month ago, after 10 years. I really didn't have any suspicions, but my DSN & I were changing both my insulins (Humalog and Lantus to Actrapid &...

    life insurance

You don't have to notify your life insurance company. The premium they are charging you will have taken into account the fact you will get less healthy as you get older, as we all do. If you apply for more life cover, say if you move house, they you would have to mention the T2 on the...

    Confession/Help Please!

Chris, After your great post, I think us experts must mostly have decided you don't need any help. Your post is full of concern, sensitivity, and compromise, and that's all you need to help your partner. But you asked for help, so here are a few tips from someone who's had support from their...

Well, I'm pleased to say you are in for a nice surprise :) Don't get me wrong, it's a bit odd, but you will soon recover. Minutes till the bright lights fade, hours till you feel less odd. It' not a painful process, just strange. Depending on the strength of laser they use you might want to...

    Terrified

I have to say well done for getting him help last might. This would be a stressful situation if you were still together. Type 3 Diabetes

Hi. I don't have any practical experience of Type 3 diabetes, as I didn't know it existed till I read your post. I've read as much as I can since then, as there seems to be a great deal research on it. There were only two things that seemed relevant to your question. The main one is that they...

    Metallic taste in mouth

Any chance the metallic taste could be oral thrush? Numbers going up and up would make ideal conditions for it. I went to my GP recently with what I thought was an ear infection, but I also had a metallic taste. He thought it was oral thrush, prescribed some anti-fungal tables and they cured it.
