    Before or after?

Hi all Started on my pump on Tuesday so I'm due for my first real set change Friday morning. Should I do this before or after breakfast? I've been advised to test before and 1-2 hours after the new set, to make sure it's working. But if I've had breakfast my BG will be raised and I won't know...

    Replacing infusion sets

 If you get one that bleeds a lot, what's the best way to stop it? Due to do my first proper set change tomorrow morning...

    Recording site changes

A Medtronic journal came with the pump, its very comprehensive with boxes for all the factors mentioned along a timeline so it's clear what happened when and why, plus space for free comments like set details. I've ordered more of these with my first supplies order, apparently the PCT isn't...

    The first 24 hours....

Still at 10 before dinner despite some walking this afternoon, but I'm cool with that. Better a bit high than lots of night hypos. Too right I'm testing at night! May not write them all down on the sheet for the DSN, but will test for my own peace of mind. She only seems to expect me to do...

Quite apart from the risk of high sugars due to lack of background insulin, you should try reintroducing Levemir or Lantus to see if the headaches come back. Otherwise you haven't proved they were to blame, it could be a coincidence that the headaches went. If you're LADA or type 2 you might...

    FRIO WALLETS

Hi Wig Your DSN is right that the insulin you're using should be kept out of the fridge, but it needs to be below 25 or 30 degrees (check the package insert). In hot weather/hot environment you could use a Frio to keep it down to normal room temperature. The other main use is for spare...

Thanks DD I think the body chart would be fiddly, it needs to be simple but clear and easy to include in the main log. I'll probably use the smart charts from Pumping Insulin or the Medtronic journal after the first few weeks. Meanwhile the DSN has given me photocopied sheets she wants me...

    The first 24 hours....

Thanks guys. Up to 10.1 before lunch today, but DSN says don't correct unless more than 13 before meals, just watch what happens as the Levemir fades out. I'm pretty impressed. Compared to previous estimates of doses when changing insulin etc this is spot on. I meant bolused afterwards...

Just checked the label. Ketostix expire 6 months after opening, or the expiry date on the pack if earlier.

    The first 24 hours....

    Started pumping today!

Hiya Last night was fine except I didn't really sleep til after my 2am test. (BS was good.) Lay there thinking about names for my pump to play on the purple colour, as well as work issues. Then I dreamed of buying a Frio pump wallet, well it was supposed to be that but nothing like the...

Where to dispose of lancets, pls?

Smaller sharps containers are available (0.3 litre upwards), designed for travel but easily tucked away out of sight. They're a lot more expensive though.

Where to dispose of lancets, pls?

Replacing the cover doesn't really help if you put them in general rubbish, the covers are easily dislodged. In many places it's illegal to put used 'sharps' in general rubbish. A 1 litre sharps bin would last ages if you're only putting lancets in and wouldn't be expensive. When prescribed...

    Glab mini monitor

Have you considered the Freestyle Lite? It's much smaller than the Freedom version. Not sure if it uses the same strips as the Freedom. Although I'm not a bloke, I downsized from my Accuchek after the DAFNE course to remove my excuse for not testing out of the house (it worked).

    Recording site changes

How do people note in their BG records which site they're using? I've read various recommendations for rotating sites (1 clockface surrounding bellybutton, clockface on each side, M and W 'join the dots' etc) but how do I record so I can spot any consistent problems? Clockface with the hour...

    Started pumping today!

Thanks Dragonflye and iHs The DSN suggested I test once during the night, but with my talent for sleeping thru hypos I'd have tested at least once even if it wasn't mentioned. I've been testing anytime I wake in the night as well as after Levemir changes for the past few years. That's assuming...

    Started pumping today!

HI All The big day at last. I'm now pumping Humalog 0.35 units/hour and have done my first meal bolous through my pretty purple Veo :) :) Starting with a single basal rate 24/7 and basal/bolus proportion of 50/50, which is nothing like my recent MDI regime, so expecting plenty of...

    Alarms on a Veo

Found a statement near the back of the manual, that if set to vibrate when an alarm arises (they mean a black circle state eg empty reservoir/no delivery), the pump changes to a tone alarm after 10 mins, then to a 'siren'. The loan pump hasn't had a reservoir in for nearly a week, but didn't...

    Alarms on a Veo

   Instead of pathetic beeps, pumps should have annoying voices, to tell you what's happening. Imagine it .... "ow, you're squashing me!"

    Hypo's & Hyper's

Maybe the ketones were due to the glucagon? It makes your liver dump glucose, so its effects could be different from just treating with carbs. Or maybe it's because you have a set or delivery problem as you mentioned on the pump forum. Hope you get things sorted out soon.
