Hello & Questions From T2 Newbie

The thirst I believe is caused by high sugar levels. I get pins and needles at night in my fingers and feet.... Diabetics can have circulation issues.... Try and exercise as much as you can. Can't help with the asthma. Some people do really struggle initially with the diagnosis. The most...

When do you feel unwell with your BS? Advice?

I did a ten mile cycle yesterday and another 12 mile cycle this morning. I'm guessing it was a false hypo. Feeling fab again today :D

When do you feel unwell with your BS? Advice?

Thankyou so much for your post. My readings are normal mid 5's, so these are lower than usual, so a false hypo would make sense. I don't know for certain it's my BS making me feel like this, but I had tea an hour earlier than usual. 45 mins after tea and I feel much better.

When do you feel unwell with your BS? Advice?

Most of my readings today have been between 4.5 and 5, and I have felt like sh*t. First time since my diagnosis that I have felt unwell. I know these readings are perfectly good and acceptable. However, I have a bit of a dilemma.... As I feel like sh*t, should I have something to push up my...

    A REAL Cure for Diabetes

This article made me angry. It's implies that all type 2's are obese, eat rubbish and do no exercise. I'm a genetic type 2. Despite an excellent diet and regular exercise, my pancreas started underperforming, just like my Mums, Grandfathers and great grandmothers did before me.

I Just Can't Do This Anymore, I Quit..

I totally understand the grief and where you are coming from. So sad that you've lost your brother. However, here is my family tale. My Grandfather had to have his leg amputated due to diabetes complications, he was 70 and died from the trauma of it all. My Mum was 45, and losing her Dad...

    Bike riding and being 19st!

I took up cycling again in September last year after a 24 year absence..... Thought I'd forget.... But well, it's like riding a bike  I'm now doing around 30 miles a week and have really improved my fitness and speed. It's great exercise and run too.... Can't beat the feeling of the...

    Don't try this at home!

Was honestly nothing to do with my cooking ability, they just tasted vile. However, I have created a lower carb, lower GI loaf. Now THAT tasted amazing  200g stoneground wholemeal bread flour (56g of carb per 100g) so 112g carb 200g granary flour (surprisingly 58g of carb per 100g) so...

    How will I feel medicated?

Be aware that they will probably need to send you for a fasting glucose test, followed by a glucose tolerance test to confirm it. Good luck with the Doctors.

Metformin and Swollen Feet and Ankles

Just started Metformin and had swollen feet and ankles for 2 day, this started 3 days after I started the meds, but now it's gone, feet and ankles back to normal. Dont know if it's the meds or just the heat

    How will I feel medicated?

I'm no expert..... I was only diagnosed on Friday. That said, I was put straight on meds (Metformin) not a single bit of old school sugar has passed my lips (no sugar in coffee, no pop, no sweets, no chocolate, no cakes, no biscuits, not that I ever had the last 4 anyway  ) and I feel...

    Don't try this at home!

Made carb free ground almond and linseed bagels.... OMG they were vile! Think I'll stick to a small amount of homemade seeded granary bread in moderation

My parents won't listen to me about low carb

I'd buy your own food or go shopping with them. I don't know how old your parents are and how long you have been diagnosed but it could well be they are "stuck in their ways" as they knew the old school recommendations about a higher carb diet for diabetes. Understanding that medical science...

    A REAL Cure for Diabetes

What an intriguing and ill informed post :? I'm a genetic T2..... Mother had it, grandfather had it, his mother had it.... Long line of it. My GP has assured me there was NOTHING I could have done. Diet great (no convenience foods, everything made from scratch, little sugar), no snacking...

    Metformin and alcohol

Everything I have read has said that dry white or red wine is the best alcohol you can drink as a diabetic :? Sooooooo much conflicting information out there.

    Metformin and alcohol

Sorry, I'm going to be asking TONS of questions I'm sure  I've been reading conflicting information on alcohol with Metformin. Whilst the scary pamphlet says its a big no no, I have widely read that as long as you don't drink in excesses or binge drink that you are fine. What classes...
