    The Demon Drink!

I am a type two diet only and was told my safe weekly limits is the same as a non diabetic. My GP said unwinding with the occasional glass of red is "no bad thing". I find moderate amount of red lowers my bg. P

Why do friends/family always have to ask?

Perhaps seeing you testing makes them feel the topic is "open" rather than just dropping it into general conversation.

    Flu jab 2010/2011

Re: Flu jab 2010. Had mine yesterday morning. The nurses at my GP surgery were working their way through 150 flu jabs yesterday! I am sore and itchy at the injection site, but it beats the hell out of getting flu. My employer now offers it to all staff, and if I didn't get it on the nhs I...

    Your suggestions please

Me too! I also like the idea of making the newly diagnosed advice a sticky somewhere.

    blurry eyes

I went for an eye test shortly after I was diagnosed. The optician advised me to hang fire on new glasses untill my bg had stabalised just in case it had caused minor changes to my vision. Am glad I did because I didn't need new glasses.

    Your suggestions please

Like Ken I would not be happy to add my postcode. However maybe a map by county might be good. It would be interesting to see if we have any "hotspots". I like the forum pretty much as it is, finding it easy to navigate etc.

    Hi All

Hi. It is so confusing at first with differing advice from different people. My advice is to keep an open mind and see what works best for you, probably with some trial and error. Are you on meds? Or diet only? Good luck

I'm a lost cause! Can any one help please!!

Geoff, There is always someone here to give you heartfelt advice and tell you that you are so far from alone. It is tough, personally I see the diabetes as the wake up call that I needed but didn't really want! I don't really have a sweet tooth, my major downfalls are bread, cheese, crisps...

I'm a lost cause! Can any one help please!!

No you are not alone. Please don't be offended by this, but it probably took years of bad habits to hit 18 stone. So it is going to take a while to get used to the new habits. If a sweet tooth is your problem, find some sweet things that fit in with it. There are loads of ideas in the foodie...

    Control solution....

Being me, I have put the instructions for my meter somewhere safe.... So safe I havn't a clue. I have had a couple of readings that don't make sense over the past few days, so was wondering if I should be using control solution, and if so what on earth I do with it. The only other thing I...

    Mozzie repellant

I tried the marmite thing (being a magnet for all flying biting things) and it didn't work for me, but I do know someone who it did work for. Clearly there is something about me which mosquito's find irresistable.... Wonder if it is the same thing that attracts mad people to me???

Confused about the 'low carb' issue

Glandular fever is caused by the Epstein barr virus. My healthy three year old has just been hospitalised by a very nasty bout of it (he is fine now). He eats a full balenced diet and isn't diabetic. I have done a lot of research into EBV over the past week or so. It is very common (one of the...

Will I always be a diabetic?

Too true. I was diagnosed at 39. My 70 year old Dad told me today he has had his annual mot with fasting bloods of 4.8mmol. Dad has allways been obese. Diabetes runs on my Mum's side of the family but not my Dad's.I dare say being overweight didn't help but isn't the only factor that has led...

    Weight Loss and Diabetes

I read a diet tip in a mag yesterday that makes so much sense..... Writeca list of the healthy foods that you actually like. Then go to the supermarket and buy nothing but the things on that list. Don't buy anything that isn't on the list. Obvious really...

neuropathy & not eligible for benefits? please help

If your Mum were to apply for working tax credit it would have to be a joint claim with her husband, so it would depend on his income and how high it is. If they pay rent and or council tax she may be able to get some help from her local council as housing and or council tax benefit. Again it...

    Holistic Therapies

My friend trained as a reflexologist a few years ago. I was lucky enough to be one of the people she practiced on. I was very cynical at first, but changed my mind totally. I had a nasty sinus infection at the time, but during a treatment my sinus suddenly cleared. And I slept like a baby after...
