cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit pen!

Re: cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit Thanks everyone for your responses :) I'm gonna call my dsn tomorrow for some advice as the note attached to my prescription was hand written and signed by my GP so I'll speak to her and she what she thinks about it, then take it from...

cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit pen!

Re: cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit Thanks Phoenix :) I just think it's completely and utterly petty and small minded to bring up the cost of something that can save a diabetics life...that's a rather good idea, I think I'll try that with my pharmacist too! Sent from...

cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit pen!

Re: cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit This is the first time in 5 years I've ever had an issue, I was mortified standing in the doctors surgery as there were people waiting behind me. I had asked them a while ago to double my test strips up so I'd only need to order every...

cutting test strips and refusing to prescribe a hypokit pen!

Hi all :) I collected my repeat prescription today and was given half my normal amount of test strips.....has this happened to anyone else? I get 25 strips per box (normally 2 boxes) so I'm now going to be ordering weekly rather than fortnightly (unless I'm ill or need to test more regularly...

    Night Shifts

This is something I've struggled with too due to working variable shifts...I spoke to a guy on here who advised me to test, log, adjust, repeat. Doing this every 2 hours for the past 3 days has drastically improved my sugars. I've ended up having to increase my levemir by 6 units. Keep a diary...

    Womans Monthlys = Cravings

I struggle with this one too! A wee sugar free hard boiled sweet gets me through the craving for something sugary but not found anything as yet to cut down on the 'I want to eat everything that's not nailed down craving' lol. Good luck, I hope the cravings stop or you find something to curb them...

    Low carb diets

Thanks weens12, I've never tried anything like this long term before but hopefully it'll help me get things back under a tight rein as I'm yoyo-ing a lot at the moment Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Low carb diets

Thanks Andy, I suppose it's just planning ahead for meals and snacks plus making sure you get some variety too?....can't do any harm to give it a go :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Low carb diets

Ok, so I'm T1' have been 5 years. Find that due to my variable shifts my control isn't as good as it once was as breaks/lunches always alter as do eating and injecting times. Thinking of a low carb diet to try to rectify things...I tried once before but was left feeling very hungry quite often...

    Alcohol and diabetes

Cocktails and shots, I normally avoid! Really hard to adjust insulin to cover them due to the syrups and fruit juice used in them....I would stick to spirits with diet juice and make sure you snack as alcohol will automatically lower your blood sugar. Hope this helps! Sent from the Diabetes...

Yeah they can be but my dsn previously mentioned dawn phenomenon as a possiblity for the highs in the morning. I've been around 8 when going to sleep, and if I increase my levemir by a unit or 2 at night, I always hypo around 4am then have a rebound high anyway, it's frustrating. I really think...

Constantly, there's no visible pattern, it's just completely up in the air. I know how important it is and sometimes my readings terrify me, especially highs of 24 in the morning with no food for over 12 hours....I've had DKA once since diagnosis but I know I can't keep on with these crazy...

    drastic weight loss

Re: drastic wieght loss Running high sugars, exercising too much and not eating enough. I'd suggest a visit to the diabetic clinic for a check up, it could be something really simple and easily fixed :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

I know, I just feel a bit stuck now with where to go from here....I'm really worried about my irrational sugar levels too, I've never had such poor control :( Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

i've raised the issue with them, applied for a set shift and an additional daily break (unpaid) but they've declined both suggestions, stating that 'the business cant support it' They just think that there must be an easy fix or something i can change to make everything better...if only lol

Definitely, I never had any issues with control when I worked in my last job, only worked 9-5 though...yes injecting at my desk is difficult As is checking my sugar

Not great, lots of highs and lows. I work variable shifts so start anytime between 8am-2pm and finish anytime between 5pm and 10pm. 9 hour shifts per day and shift changes every 5 days. Breaks vary day to day so eating/injecting times alter too. Work in a call centre so it's not easy to eat or...

I've considered saving up to buy one but £3000 is rather steep.....I just think my sugars would be a whole lot steadier and I would have much better control if I had one but I suppose we just need to manage as best we can :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

How do you find having an insulin pump Brett? I would love one but they're so expensive and rarely available on the nhs up here in Scotland Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
