How can I reduce fasting insulin levels

I have, in general it seems, steady but raised fasting insulin levels around 6.5mmol/L. Even when not on my prednisolone (forgot it and it has short half-life) Obviously, I am looking for ways to reduce fasting glucose to non-diabetic levels. I find it easier to stick to a diet regime that has...

Started low carb / keto 2 weeks ago, advice please

They also have auto-testers that you wear for 24hrs. Not too uncomfortable, even when they go off at night. That way you wouldn't even have to take your own pressure and, more importantly, wouldn't have any individual readings to stress over as the nurse only gets the info when you visit to have...

    Keto diet not for me

I wonder if they are distinguishing between pathological and physiological (often called adaptive) insulin resistance in the studies quoted. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2903931/ "The effects on glucose homeostasis, however, are rapidly reversible upon resumption of a...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Wow! I'm only up late as no work until after New Year. Thanks for the support. It maybe didn't go too high, but like my rising blood pressure, it looks like I've tipped over the point where my insulin could cope after 15 years of unstoppable weight gain despite regular enthusiastic exercise and...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@ziggy_w Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't bought bread for years either but had been eating a daily sandwich from the van that comes to our work until July when I started fasting/low carb. I think it was the texture I craved. Self-loathIng has kept me up really late-what's your excuse? :)

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Stoopid. Stoopid. Stoopid. Was doing well on lamb stew and coffee with cream until I almost, but not quite, threw out a brown bread loaf bought to make stuffing for my sister at Xmas. Just one slice... ...with loadsa butter. From 5.5 to 8.5 on the Libre (9.7 on the Tee2+ as the Libre's running...

    Bad Christmas Day

Just a blip. Don't beat yourself up. Back on the horse when you're up to it. Me? I put on 4 kg in two days and haven't eaten veg (normally only leafy but at least 3/4lb) since. I'm still overeating cheese and cream. It's a marathon!

Merry Christmas! Watch this if you'd like to turn your health around in the New Year

Nope. I generally keep my Bvits topped up daily but may slipi. Off to read your links. The first gives the basic sdvice that has never worked for me. Docs not interested either. On the second, I've tried all those interventions and was eating loads of healthy, nutritious foods (much more than...

Type 2 How much fat can you eat on the LCHF diet

After watching Dr Paul Mason, I popped down the research rabbithole and found this. I have been trying to work out how much protein to eat and found there were arguments for limiting protein and many others advocating protein levels in the 100g+ ie 1-2g per kg bodyweight. This chap, an academic...

Merry Christmas! Watch this if you'd like to turn your health around in the New Year

Hi Cocosilk One thing I would caution against is after finding and eliminating a food or food group that causes you problems is to believe you have found the solution. One instance for me.. ... aa a child I suffered from eczema and asthma and badly cracked corners of my mouth. No medications...

    The Boxing Day food blitz!

I trust a good night's sleep will do you the world of good. Perhaps the bug not the food did your numbers in. Scarves are great!

    The Boxing Day food blitz!

I don't think my numbers were that good either. New Libre is nice and comfy but it's readin quite a bit lower than my Tee2+.

Is there a guide to starting up with the Freestyle Libre?

Yes, I am aware but after 15-20 mins they are still out of sync by a fair margin1.5-2.5. I did the 15 mins interval to show. My main query is does a prick test send blood glucose levels rising in some people in the short term? I'm new to testing and have never done many frequent (every 15 min or...

    The Boxing Day food blitz!

Ditto. Great day, yesterday, mostly under 6.5. Today, less good with long staying swings up to 8.5+. Rats. Home now with LCHF only foods available apart from my presents of 7 boxes of After Eights, Reeses cups (I don't like peanuts) and two bottles of gin (I don't drink either) Well the scarf...

Is there a guide to starting up with the Freestyle Libre?

Having so difficulty with comparison values between the Freestyle Libre & my Tee2+. I've be trying to choose a period where not much is going on ie my repeat readings of the Libre are reporting level & lowish and I haven't eaten anything recently; taking simultaneous measurements and then...

    Glucose monitor

Same boat here, Malc. I got my first reader, TEE2 from Spirit Healthcare (1.5 month use) and just trying out Freestyle Libre from Abbott. Just installed. Obviously, I have little experience. Very few wasted test strips. I keep forgetting to set the fasting/before food/after food flags on the...

Is there a guide to starting up with the Freestyle Libre?

Thanks all Sensor installed - completely painless so far; I have a good layer of fat to pad it! First reading on the Libre was 5.2 rising then 6.3 then 6.2 level. I guess it was still settling in. Correlates pretty well so far with TEE2 taken 10 mins beforehand and with mobile Abbott app. As...
