    Low carb; how many?

That's interesting. I might consider experimenting if/when I feel the need to vary my current regime. I mean, I never thought I'd get to like 100% chocolate, but the stuff from Montezuma now perfectly fits my taste buds. And (as a bonus!) is totally safe from depredations by the BlokeShape :-)

Variety? Or a select few things?

I think it depends on how you deal with food. For me, I keep it limited - eggs, cheese, nuts (I have either macadamia or walnuts in the house usually), a small amount of fish, and green veg (cucumber, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale). I keep some hard boiled eggs in the fridge so...

    First post - meter/numbers question

I'd forgotten I'd made this post, but having been reminded of it I thought I would update here. I got access to my test results on Patient Access - by mentioning it when I was talking to someone at the surgery who then clicked a button and let me into that part of the system. Very easy. I...

    Low carb; how many?

It would be for me. I detest meat fat, loathe chicken skin, loathe the taste and mouthfeel of the fat from any kind of meat. I do like fish and so have added that back into my diet after several years of being vegetarian, my diet now though is based on green veggies - cucumber, celery...

Real, simple, good, seasonal and FREE

I'm feeling quite down today - I've been out for a walk this morning and I think I've had my last free breakfast of the season. The blackberries are all but over around here. And no, I never, ever, manage to get them home. My walks are a lot slower during the blackberry season though.

1 year in, still overwhelmed scared and confused

Why don't you give us a list here of what you do like, what you can tolerate, and what is an absolute no no? I am sure there are plenty of people on here who will be willing to come up with ideas and suggestions for you to play with and perhaps come up with some ideas that appeal to you that...

    Glass shortage

I think it's the 'which blood collection system do you use' lottery instead. Our GP is saying they can't book routine tests to be done at the surgery for a while, but the hospital 10 miles down the road has no problem. I assume the GP uses the other system (I always tend to go to the hospital...

    Glass shortage

I had a blood test yesterday and the phlebotomist said that they have no issue with supplies at all. I *think* I read somewhere that it is only one of the two main systems that there are supply chain issues with. I had my test in S Bucks (Amersham)

    Feeling tired

I'm pre-diabetic. The GP told me in June after a routine set of blood tests. I pretty much straight away got myself on here and did a lot of reading - there is SO MUCH helpful information in these forums* with people who will explain things and walk you through it. I got a meter, and a free...

    Fasting blood sugar....pre-diabetes

It depends on how you react to information and numbers. When I was told I was pre-diabetic at the start of the summer I pretty much straight away started reading here and got myself a blood glucose monitor. I keep numbers, I've gone low carb. I weigh myself daily, I monitor my blood pressure...

    Bouncy numbers

Not very hydrated at all. I wasn't out for very long and I wouldn't usually bother with taking liquid for at least twice that time/distance. That was definitely part of it. I pretty much sank two pints of water without them touching the sides when I got back.

    Bouncy numbers

Yes, totally agree. I am happy with what my numbers are doing, and I think the GP will be too. This morning's rise, while not particularly remarkable, was the biggest I've seen from exercise thus far. It was way too hot for my tastes out there though and I came back feeling like death warmed...

    Bouncy numbers

Very true - I have to keep reminding myself to hold on to at least some shreds of sanity around various numbers, I've seen rises after exercise before, especially when it's Too Hot out there and I'm exhausted, but that was the biggest I've seen. But yes, I am basically happy with what my...

    Bouncy numbers

I am pretty sure it was the exercise, I was hot, knackered, and feeling very grey around the gills when I got back - and I really didn't walk very far by my usual standards. I had a hard boiled egg (I keep them in the fridge ready for snacking purposes) when I got back and an hour later my...

    Bouncy numbers

I've been working hard on my blood glucose numbers over the last few months since the GP told me I'd edged into pre-diabetic territory. This morning I was at 4.7mmol/L, which is lower than I've been seeing so far. As it is going to be stupid hot here today (OK, 26deg C maybe isn't furnace...

Anyone doin One Meal a Day (OMAD)

I've been LCHF since early this summer when I was told that my blood glucose had been creeping up over the last few years and I was now pre-diabetic. I got access to my results via the GP website and yes, they've been going up by just over 1 per year since I went on BP medication a few years...

I need to share this somewhere ...

Thank you - I just hope I get to have the test this week. If I don't I might consider paying for one of the home/DiY kits that you can get. I'd rather have it 'officially' via the NHS and GP though.

I need to share this somewhere ...

In June I went for routine blood tests because I have high blood pressure and am on medication for that. A follow up telephone appointment with the GP told me that I was pre-diabetic. Although he didn't give me the number for my A1C. He suggested an appointment with a diabetes nurse specialist...
