Retinopathy worse with sudden Hba1c drop?

Saw a link to a brilliant retinopathy site in a separate thread. http://www.diabeticretinopathy.org.uk/back_diabetic_retinopathy.html This suggests retinopathy can dramatically worsen for 1 to 3 years after a sudden improvement in control, and then recover, but initially laser treatment may be...

    Background retinopathy

Wow, that website is scary stuff!.................I have had background retinopathy for 4 years. the site suggests that you can get a sudden deterioration if your Hba1c drops quickly, and mine has come down from 10 to 6 in 5 months................I will get my next eye test brought forward, as...

    First 7 Day Fast COMPLETED!!

Excellent work keep it up.............there is a place for you in the great guinea pig university, and hopefully we can then all piggy back onto your success. I'm struggling to go 24 hours at the moment. Your weight loss and recent scientific dedication are quite remarkable................I'm...

Fats that Heal & Fats that Kill

After reading Malcolm Kendrick + the big fat lie, Gary Taubes etc, I think that low cholesterol is worse for you than high, optimum range 5-7. Until they start routinely measuring LDL fractions, in my opinion it is not even worth getting checked. All these sources present a highly convincing...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thanks Debrasue..............that was a bad day! The Josephs low carb pitas are 4 grams carbs each, and have very little effect on my BG. On a good day I stick to 40-50 grams of carbs, but struggle to get it lower, so never in ketosis I think. However, I do manage to stay at about 70-80% fat...

    Gastroparesis.................Like snacking all the time?

Thanks for all the replies, and the video link. I tend to wake up with about 5.5, which goes up to about 7.5 due to DP. If I stay low carb, then slowly come down to about 4.5 by 6pm, with a small peak after breakfast and lunch. If I keep evening meal under 20 grams of carbs, then don't go above...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Amazed at how little snacking seems to go on in this thread. I try to keep my 3 meals as low carb as possible, especially breakfast, but despite trying hard, my appetite is not suppressed enough to avoid lots of snacking. Yesterday........ B Josephs low carb pita with Egg mayo, pate...

    Gastroparesis.................Like snacking all the time?

Anyone have any ideas about this.................Am I less likely to benefit from intermittent fasting because of my extreme delayed gastric emptying? Thanks

Type 2 On Gliclazide - Snacks? Any ideas welcome!

I've been low carbing for 5 months..............my figures are below. At the start I was on Gliclazide 240mg (and Metformin/Canagliflozin). By April, I was getting one or two readings of 3.9 or 4.0, on returning home from work after no food since lunch. So I reduced to 160mg in April and 80mg...

    Gastroparesis.................Like snacking all the time?

I am certain I have gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying). This is a form of autonomic neuropathy, mainly affecting the vagal nerve. Dr Bernstein has a whole chapter on it. I have assumed this, as after a medium sized meal with some carbs, my peak BG is usually 2-3 hours, and it takes 6-8...

Will fasting help if beta cells burnt-out?

I think I assumed that because I've been type 2 for 17 years, and not looked after myself at all, I must have done myself a lot of damage. The GP wanted to start insulin at start of year, which panicked me into doing all this. However, it is encouraging to think that maybe, just maybe, my beta...

Will fasting help if beta cells burnt-out?

Thanks Brunneria I'm sure you are right that fasting can only help....................planning my second 24 hour fast tomorrow. However, not convinced that my longstanding insulin resistance is now due to high insulin levels. Having said that, I am on Gliclazide, which I know works by...

Will fasting help if beta cells burnt-out?

Hi, Just read the obesity code by Jason Fung. Makes sense, but I think the focus is very much on getting insulin levels down if you are pre-diabetic or newly diagnosed. I have been type 2 for 17 years. I have trouble believing that my insulin levels are still too high (though they would have...

Hi, my name is Jennifer -- new here

Excellent approach, brilliant results - well done. I've just finished the Obesity code by Jason Fung, and did my first 24 hour fast 2 days ago...............too soon to know if it will help. I've been type 2 for 17 years, and have firmly believed that my beta cells are 75% burnt-out, so it is a...

Endobarrier being fitted in a week.

Please let us know how you get on. I do think that this is the future for diabetes care. The holy grail is to mimic these effects in a non-surgical way, so that somehow food is not absorbed in the duodenum or jejunum, and just in the ileum, but that may be a long way off.

Diet controlled type2 Now have background Retinopathy

Please don't panic. I have been type 2 for 17 years, since age 34. Retinopathy screens fine until background changes 4 years ago, which have persisted. However, it can take 12-15 years of poor control before this progresses. With good, low-carb control, I would say there is a very good chance...

    lids high protein rolls

Just had one for lunch, loaded with butter, cheese and mayo. About 11 grams of carbs, but I have found they send my BG up by about 1.5 on average, which is even less than I would expect.

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

I'm living on double cream at the moment - probably 100-150ml per day = 600-700 calories. My figures are below............ having tried Atkins etc in the past and not being able to stick to it, I am now convinced that the high fat bit of LCHF is crucially important. Lots of reading has helped...

Are special Low carb foods ok on the lchf diet?

The natural lowcarb store bars are between 3 and 5 grams of carbs, lots of coconut and seeds, only sweetened with inulin/fructo-oligo-saccharide, which suits me fine. Highly recommended as a treat 3 or 4 times a week. I've nothing but admiration for people on the forum who seem to stay at...
