    Advice needed

I'm not sure if you are only on long-acting basal insulin alone or also inject before meals too, but here's what I'd suggest. 1. If you are going hypo in the night your basal is too high and it would be worth trying to lower it slowly over a period of a few weeks. 2. Fixing hypos with a quick...

Opt for Diabetic Choices on Tesco groceries?

Oh dear me, that Tesco dietary info is pretty much the same as that trotted out in the NHS/NICE 'Eat Badly Plate' and the same as that was (maybe still is) advocated by that 'Other Diabetes Site'. A few years ago there was a stall inside the entrance to out local Tesco selling prize draw tickets...

Type 1 For anyone who uses FreeStyle Libre and has their diabetic care done by their practice nurse

It's rather unlikely that a practice nurse and very many GPs would understand the data provided by Libre. The DSNs at my local hospital do understand the data as does my diabetes consultant.

Just been approved for the libre 2

I've had no problems with adhesion. I clean the area with a couple of alcohol wipes, let it dry and then apply the sensor. Abbott used to supply wipes with each sensor but stopped doing that fairly recently, so I've bought a box of Sterets - 100 for £3.25 from our local pharmacy.

    Removing libre sensor

Fingertip under the edge, grit your teeth, smile and pull hard. Just takes one second and then the fun's over.

    Freestyle Libre - max scans

It is made available for insulin dependent T2s, but much depends on local NHS policy though prescribing it is slowly gaining ground throughout the UK. I was lucky as I was prescribed the Libre a couple of years ago and it made an vast improvement in my blood glucose management.

Bolus dose calculation - after many years doing it my way!

Hi @andyasw ! As Ellie says you should get your basal sorted first before tweaking bolus doses. The carbs divided by 5 is a very, very broad-brush way of establishing bolus dose; you need to try it and see. My bolus insulin-carb ratio varies considerably for different meals. Further more you'll...

Problem uploading to LibreView since new LV drivers

LibreView is now again working with Windows 8.1. I've done nothing to change my PC system. Abbott had their LV site down for maintenance at the weekend, I suspect they may have tweaked it to accommodate Win 8.1.

Problem uploading to LibreView since new LV drivers

Yes, I tried Chrome and got the same result.

Problem uploading to LibreView since new LV drivers

It would run, but I neither need nor want it at present. I will give serious thought to Windows 11 next year after more bugs have been ironed out. According to Abbott, LibreView with the new drivers should run under Windows 8.1, but it doesn't, at least in my case.

Problem uploading to LibreView since new LV drivers

I'm running the latest version of Windows 8.1.

Problem uploading to LibreView since new LV drivers

Since Abbott rolled out 'upgraded?' drivers for LV I can't upload from my reader via my PC. I can though access all my previous uploads. I carried out all the checks on my PC suggested on the pop-ups after a failed upload, and my PC meets and exceeds ALL the criterea. I'm using the latest...

Not sure if I injected my background insulin

We all make the odd mistake with our insulins. It takes a while to get into a routine and a bit of concentration when it come to time to inject. I injected rapid acting NovaRapid instead of long acting Lantus one morning a few months ago and had to keep scoffing jelly babies until lunch time...

    Type 2 & Insulin Treatment!

Your HbA1c of 51 doesn't seem too bad to me. With diet, exercise and a sulphonylurea I gor my HbA1c down to about 50 and was almost classified as 'in remission'. However this didn't last for very long and HbA1c started to climb to almost 100, which is what it was on my intial diagnosis, and I...

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

I doubt if Jelly Babies will disolve. Just out of curiousity this evening I thought I'd see if dextrose or glucose tablets would disolve so I popped one of each into a glass of warm water and even after an hour they hadn't disolved :-(

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

I''m not the complete idiot you seem to think I am. My comment was intended to highlight the fact that 'Lift' , a liquid, is high in carbs and very rapidly absorbed. It's obvious jelly babies won't go down a tube - even this thicko comprehends that!!

Best quick fix for hypo with tube feeding

"Lift" in the small bottles is glucose which acts quite a bit faster than sugars. I usually scoff a few jelly babies to ward off hypos, but if I'm needing a really fast fix I resort to "Lift".

    Wondering if someone could help

As a general rule, if I'm low before a meal I eat some fast acting glucose that will take me up to a 'normal' level and then wait 15 to 30 minutes before eating and taking insulin. However I sometimes skip the insulin if I know that I'll be very active after the meal and the carbs in the meal...

    New initiative to study hypos.

There is a major project aimed at discovering more about many aspects of hypoglycaemia about to start in the UK. It’s part of a huge international project – Hypo Resolve. In the UK diabetic participants will spend 10 weeks wearing two Libre sensors, a FitBit watch and recording answers to a...

    What are your exceptable ranges?

I aim for 10 to 3.9. I've just about eliminated any lengthy hypos as I've set an alarm at 5mmol and usually manage to head them off with a couple of jelly babies. Still tend to go a bit high after evening meal on occasion, but as I said to my consulant endocrinologist that's just down to...
