    Overnight snack suggestions

Definitely keep your hypo treatment in a bedside cabinet. Walking down stairs can be very tricky when hypo!

    Fiasp Insulin

Hi I am also on Fiasp, have been for about a year. Novorapid was just too slow to kick in for me and I was spiking badly after food. Fiasp suits me much better. Having a Libre is helpful to see exactly how quickly it takes to kicks in for you.

    Forgotten to take basal

Thank you, I have been unable to get through to my DN and I have emailed the doctor but don’t know when they will call. As it’s only 4 hrs now until the next dose think I will do as you suggest. Many thanks for replying

    Forgotten to take basal

Hi everyone Out of routine today and just realised I have completely forgotten to take my Levemir this morning. Should I just take it now? Will this impact on the dose tonight? I normally take half 7am then the other half 6pm Thanks in advance

Type 1 on mdi using a pen - how would you treat a before meal hypo?

I have had this, it depends what the meal is, I eat low carb and low GI so I would treat the hypo with jelly babies or juice (I sometimes don’t want to eat jelly babies just before dinner). Then eat dinner, then inject for the meal. When I have treated the hypo, injected for dinner, eaten...

    Suddenly experiencing lots of lows

Hi I always have to reduce insulin in winter, and have had hypos when out walking in the cold. In the summer I have to take more insulin. I was told the warm weather makes you absorb any glucose quicker. Even having a warm shower makes my BG rise by 3-4mmol. Everyone is different though.

Hypers and hypos and never know why

I have had many hypos and hypers not connected to food, I have put reason unknown often. After about 3 years they finally worked out with me that what happens at breakfast time effects me between 5-6pm in the evening. A definite pattern was there but no one had spotted this due to the long time...

Type 2 Just gone on insulin and my sugars are worse than ever

Hi If you are not producing insulin any more and are not injecting fast acting insulin before eating then I can easily see how that would happen after carrots. You need to be record this and getting that c-peptide test.

    Newby..

Hello Yes I have hypothyroidism specifically Hashimotos disease, then developed type 1 diabetes a few years later. They are both autoimmune diseases and I was told are linked. I was told your body needs to produce the right amount of thyroxine, insulin and cortisol for your endocrine system to...

    Libre 2 alarms every night

Yes I do exactly that, so for the last 24 hours I have one about to run out and another one on the other arm waiting to be started. Since I did this, Antje77 posted this, they have been very accurate.

    Hard to swallow metformin

I would definitely take Naija Chick’s advice and email a letter.Ask for a written reply, they will hopefully be reluctant to put any exaggeration or downright lie in writing. In the meantime I was always choking trying to take tablets as a teenager. I think with me there was nothing physically...

Which monitors do the NHS prescribe?

They have a number of different one’s. I was given about 4 (all completely different) in the first 2 years. The last one is a contour next but I am sure it varies widely in different areas.

    It hit me

Hi Lisa I phoned the helpline on diabetes.org during lockdown. I was getting very anxious about my son returning to 6th form, I hadn’t been vaccinated and had only just escaped going into hospital with DKA from a water infection. I was feeling very vulnerable. I must say they were excellent, I...

    Libre 2 alarms every night

I have found the same, some sensors fantastic, some not so. Hopefully the Libre 3 will solve this. At least Abbott’s are very efficient with replacements.

    Normal BG with ketones

You are welcome, I still look on here for advice, it’s a constantly changing condition! I think Antje, a moderator, was talking about changing ratios and insulin requirements recently #Antje77

Type 2 Just gone on insulin and my sugars are worse than ever

Fantastic! Justification for a c-peptide test I think. Sounds like you would need fast acting bolus insulin to eat any carbs…

    What's going on here?

Hello how long have you had type 1 diabetes? Could you still be in the honeymoon period? The change in weather always effects me. Now it’s turned colder I need less insulin Every summer I need more

    Libre 2 alarms every night

Are you putting the sensor on and waiting at least 24hrs before activating and scanning? I find they are not accurate otherwise.
